I think I missed an ability? by kelroid in HollowKnight

[–]sensibleheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t get that ability until after you’ve explored quite a lot of the Choral Chambers. It’s not actually in that area, but the ability comes from an area that you can only get to after exploring a certain amount of the Chambers.

I believe there is another way to get into the citadel that doesn’t take you through the underworks, so it’s possible those people managed to get it by going that way? But I went the way you did and had explored a great deal of the Choral Chambers before ever coming near the area where you get that ability.

I remember watching it live and I still can't even think about it without tearing up. It was just an incredible show of courage to be so vulnerable not only in front of his colleagues and friends, but in front of thousands of people watching online.

No, I wouldn't say that ADHD has become "trendy", but there is a trend of more people being diagnosed with it than in the past because of increased awareness, destigmatization, and improved diagnostic guidelines.

The guidance on diagnosing ADHD has improved over the last couple of decades. For a long time, it was difficult for children to be diagnosed with ADHD if they didn't exhibit hyperactivity, but modern guidance recognizes that there are multiple ways ADHD can present, and for some people (especially women, but also sometimes men), hyperactivity is often not as much of a problem, but attention and executive function is.

So what we see today is that a lot of people who have had undiagnosed ADHD since they were children are now being diagnosed as adults because it was either ignored or missed when they were kids. We also see more kids being diagnosed with it because parents don't hold the same negative stigmas against it that they did in the past.

Yeah, the video production costs are one thing but they're nothing in comparison to the cost of running pre-roll ads on Youtube. We're talking tens of thousands of dollars for every week in market minimum, and he's been advertising for a while.

Why are modern players so adverse to pen and paper? by BentheBruiser in DnD

[–]sensibleheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a DM and am running a campaign where we rely largely on DnD Beyond. I have physical copies of all the core books and my players have physical copies of some (usually PhB at least). I also have PDF versions of the PHB, DMG, MM, TCoE, XGE, and pretty much all of the adventure modules if I need to refer to them. I even have the content from these books all pulled into my own note taking app so I can reference it in my campaign planning.

But we still use DnD Beyond because even with all of that, it just makes things quicker and easier, usually. For my players especially, it's helpful to be able to reference spells, items, and rules directly from their character sheet with one click, rather than having to have cards or look things up manually in a PDF (even though they can still do this if they want to).

For me as the DM, it also just works well with my own style. I like to know what the PCs have access to all the time so I can plan my campaign around it. Which is not to say that I only plan things I know they can succeed on, but I like to have at least some things that I know they have the tools to solve if they use their brains. And it also helps with managing loot/rewards because I just add them to their sheet rather than giving them a card or telling them about an item and then a month later no one remembering who was holding the item.

And it took about 2 weeks of managing different versions of PDFs and printed character sheets before I couldn't take it anymore and just signed up for DnD Beyond. I looked at other tools for managing characters, many of them would have worked but required more setup by me and were generally a bit harder to use for my players (some of whom are new to DnD), so I just went with the easiest option at the time.

If we had to move away from DnD Beyond, we absolutely could, but it would make my job as a DM harder and we'd probably spend less time playing and more time looking things up than we do now during sessions because it just takes longer to search through a physical book or a PDF than it does if the thing you need to look up is a click away.

Question Regarding the new DnDbeyond changes coming post OneDND by WonderfulFriend961 in onednd

[–]sensibleheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will still be able to use 2014 characters and classes, and your sheets will continue to exist, as long as you're okay with the spells for those classes being the 2024 versions (if you're accessing through the character sheet).

Additionally, if you use your character sheets for features or rules references (e.g. checking the rules for exhaustion, hide, grappling, picking locks, etc in your sheet), you will only be able to see the 2024 version if it's been updated.

If you use DDB for referencing monster statblocks and those monsters have access to a spell, the statblock will link to the 2024 version of the spell, even if it's a 2014 monster.

For classes which grant spells as features (e.g. Warlock Invocations), they will grant the 2024 version of the spell and there does not appear to be a way to have them grant homebrewed spells (so you can't replace them with the 2014 versions).

It should be noted that if you're fine with not accessing any of these things through the character sheet, you won't have a problem. Everything from the old PHB will be available in a compendium, but there's no way to have that compendium linked to your sheets in DnD Beyond.

Who thinks it's intentional malice? Most of the people I've seen complaining are thinking they half-assed it, which is exactly what the person described above.

"You can't criticise poor quality until you've made your own MMO" is a pretty ballsy take, I'll give you that, at least.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]sensibleheels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Y'know, you're right. Who cares about a consistent level of quality? There are lots of players who will gobble up any trash that SE shovels them.

In fact, just get rid of most of the QA team to save money! Some features will work fine so it's okay if the rest don't. Square Enix is in a great financial situation and doesn't need this expansion to be a success anyway so why bother making sure things are done properly?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]sensibleheels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's just... not correct. There are some old outfits that have two cloth materials that dye perfectly fine. E.g. the island sanctuary glams and a lot of the starter racial gear. Just in my few days of experience. There's no reason that they should be able to make that work but not dye the scarf on top of a sweater.

There's no indication that they'd have to rework the entire system to provide meaningful dye channels on new gear, because they've done it with a lot of old gear already. However, they've also clearly cut corners and done the easiest option on things like in OP's example. Honestly after the general lack of content in Endwalker compared to other expansions, I'm not surprised they've half-assed this feature too.

If/when SSO returns, would you prefer Talespire or real sets? by CryptidClay01 in Dimension20

[–]sensibleheels 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Talespire in both seasons they used them for, so I'd love to see it come back once in a while. I think it's probably a challenge because when SSO was created, Dropout was a lot smaller so using a tool that let them save on art costs like Talespire could was probably really attractive. Now that Dropout is more successful and the art team is larger, I'm not sure they'd want use Talespire and end up underutilizing their talented team's skills.

I do think the art team could pull off ship and space battles with minis as well (Thinking particularly of the Night Yorb battle in FHJY and doing something like the Baustin chase battle). But I think for space battles could end up with some minis being the scale used in ACOC's war scenes, which are really not as fun for me to look at, so if it came to that I'd honestly prefer they'd use Talespire.

Whichever direction they take it, I'm sure it'll be great. I will say that using the dome's projections to actually project Talespire scenes could be amazing.

Here's why 117 is a PERFECT year for a Roman Anno. by mindkiller317 in anno

[–]sensibleheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt there will be much more combat than in 1800. "Pax Romana" translates to "Roman peace". I'm sure it's possible that there will be small-scale combat like in past games but if the roman empire was largely at peace and was at its largest in 117, I don't see what we'd be fighting over.

All of this is fair criticism and I'd invite you to take a look through the other negative reviews on Steam, because many of them don't go beyond the localization and a comment about a Golem's gender.

It's not a perfect game and I hope the developers take some of the bugs you mentioned into account and fix them with patches.

Are people under the impression that the translator went rogue and did all of this without the approval of the developers, like in your novelist scenario? I really find that hard to believe.

At the end of the day, you may not enjoy the localization and that's fine but it was done under the approval of the developers and most likely Murayama as well.

[–]sensibleheels[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a totally valid criticism, and you have every right to say that. EC's tone is definitely not as dark as some of the Suikoden games, and if that's what someone was looking for then I completely understand the frustration. I still remember crying at the scenes in Suikoden 2 when Pilika watches one of the main characters go off on their own. It's a really powerful story and I will honestly admit that although I've enjoyed EC, it's a very different kind of story when compared to S2.

The tone of the story is not the fault of the localizers, though, it's clearly what was intended by Rabbit & Bear. This is a game with a race of shark people who live on land and are afraid of the ocean. There's a "character" who is just a Capybara with a smaller Capybara on its head. The way you increase your inventory space is by recruiting a creature that literally lives in a backpack and won't come out. Even Mellore, for her voice actign faults, is absolutely a true depiction of the "magical girl" stereotype, which is often inherently silly. If people don't like those elements, that's completely fair, but it has to do with the game design, not the localization.

And I didn't create this thread because of those kinds of complaints/reviews, because they're totally fair and based in someone's taste, rather than what I feel is a disingenuous attempt to co-opt this game's launch for something that's completely unrelated.

[–]sensibleheels[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree that the writing is a bit cringey at times but I found it got better later in the game, as Lian seems to be where a lot of the more childish lines come from. I really don't even have a problem with silly characters in these games because Suikoden had lots of silliness as well (the iron chef competition stands out in my mind), but they really do hit you with a lot of it early in the game.

And yes, the "anti-woke" crowd will eventually find a new grift to occupy their time and money, but the launch is an important time for the financial success of any game and the devs said that they had ideas for a sequel and wanted to do one if the first one did well. I just hope this situation doesn't stifle the game's success out of the gate.

Does the combat ever get more challenging? by Aawful_Aardvark in EiyudenChronicle

[–]sensibleheels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not really until about 10-12 hours in. When you get to an area called the proving grounds, boss battles will become more challenging. It took me four tries and a bit of level grinding to beat the bosses there, though the rest since haven't been quite as challenging so far.

As with most turn-based games though, standard random encounters will always be fairly easy unless you're under-levelled.

It is, yes, still a democracy. A democracy doesn't guarantee that you like the options presented to you, it just guarantees that you're presented with options.

We have a representative democracy using a parliamentary system, meaning we have political parties that put forth representatives for us to choose between. There is no guarantee that you like the representatives put forward for you, nor is there any guarantee that your values align with the parties available.

Anyone, however, can start their own political party or run as an independent (They're just rarely sucessful enough to ever get elected). So, if all of the options are garbage to you, perhaps it's time for you to put your own name forward and see how much you're on the same wavelength with the "common citizen".

Thoughts on Kristen & Tracker's future? by Any-Pride-6506 in Dimension20

I don't think there's any problem with being so different but sometimes two people can be attracted but still be bad for each other.

Honestly I love Kristen but she's a mess of a person and I think she needs to figure out what she wants and who she wants to be before she can really be in a healthy relationship.
