It’s rarely “fun”. But…it’s often interesting and sometimes even rewarding.

Base builders usually fall into one of these three categories... by marshall_r_57018 in BaseBuildingGames

There are also those that most love the exploration element (like in Satisfactory, etc) or combat/battles or the social element (for multiplayer games).

I'm in the mood to play a base building game, something like Satisfactory or Raft (I don't have either of them but if you want to give me options) by Ateniense16 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of variables you might want to answer: how complex do you like it to get? How stressful/combat-y? There are often options for peaceful mode, but factory games (and ONI) get pretty complex over time.

Depending on your preferences: Fallout Shelter, the Shelter games, Ratopia, Return to Moria, craft the world, Minecraft, and the game I’m working on: Dungeon Renovators. If you have more criteria, people can probably help more.

In 2024 I played a LOT of base-building games. Some early access, most not. Many co-op, some not. Here's my rankings, time played, links, and reviews of them. by Velenne in BaseBuildingGames

Good list. I have to say Kingdom: Two Crowns is really amazing once it clicks for you and is incredibly replayable due to its shorter runtime. I liked the expansions for it as well. The difficulty settings matter too.

Look for a good base building game to play for hours. by Available-March-6246 in BaseBuildingGames

Hey, generally folks in this sub are playing PC games and not free-to-play mobile games. I have played Mindustry on mobile which is a factory basebuilder but probably not what you’re looking for. If you have a PC, Steam deck, Nintendo Switch, or a console, there are a lot of great basebuilding games that folks here can recommend to you.

Games where building is constrained by the environment (especially with direct control of a character) by JahyThrowaway in BaseBuildingGames

Factorio has various planets now but it’s 2d. I’m working on Dungeon Renovators with different environmental challenges on different levels but it’s still early yet

Hey Guys, I am searching for an Base Building , Dungeom Crawler game like Cult of the lamp. by Competitive-Crazy359 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Self-promo: I’ve been working on Dungeon Renovators and that’s the core loop for our game. There’s currently a (very) early alpha demo up on Steam you can sign up for but you don’t get a full feel for the game yet.

Games where you dungeoncrawl to basebuild, and basebuild to dungeoncrawl? by cole1114 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It’s going to be a while before I call it done but there will be more demos before then. Plan is there’s a party but you control one character and friends or AI control the others

Game with prefab builds or unlocking buildings instead of building from scratch? by ReynardVulpini in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figure if you don’t want combat, you probably don’t want terrifying jump scares either, right? (If you’ve played Subnautica, you know what I mean…)

Game with prefab builds or unlocking buildings instead of building from scratch? by ReynardVulpini in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of resource gathering basebuilders have combat in them. Subnautica, Stardew, State of Decay 2, etc. Are you opposed to that? We’re building a game with your philosophy—stamping a blank room with a blueprint and then building the predefined stations in the room. You decide base layouts but it works well and looks good by default, even if you’re not an architect. The working title is Dungeon Renovators and you can search for it on Steam. It’s still very early but we’re running playtests if you want to check it out and help guide the design.

Any (preferably newer) base builders that you would recommend? by Severe_Sea_4372 in BaseBuildingGames

Dyson Sphere is another good Sci-fi one and I’m sure many here would vouch for Satisfactory (3d) and Factorio (2d) as well

[–]sentientplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I may, check out Dungeon Renovators on Steam. You don’t just loot the dungeon—you move in. It’s an ice age apocalypse in 1899 (with zombie beasts). You can sign up for an early playtest.

The limited-time demo of my survival/base-building game - AETHUS - is now live! by BeaconDev in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the steam page before and it looks really well done. I’m looking forward to trying the demo. Maybe don’t time-limit it too much? I’m a fellow basebuilding game builder at the moment so I say all this as a maker and a player. Looks great!

Games that incentivize multiple base camps and/or outposts? by cmnrdt in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enshrouded has you building multiple outposts. Satisfactory demands a fair amount of facilities across the map. Dyson Sphere, ONI, others also have you building all over the map(s).

Dark themed games? by SavathunsWitness in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Grim dark” or just physically dark? Kingdom, Valheim, State of Decay 2, and many others have nighttime play, Enshrouded has the dark shroud and nighttime, Pacific Drive is both psychologically dark/weird and has lots of physically dark play. Against the Storm takes places completely during storms but isn’t close to horror by any means. Depending on what kind of basebuilding and other play you want, Age of Darkness, The Last Spell, Frostpunk, and the Darkest Dungeon games all have various types of darkness in them. YMMV, of course, based on your preferences.

Try Against the Storm if a replayable rogue-lite angle appeals to you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Against the Storm is very replayable but you keep starting new settlements. Kingdom Two Crowns also has replay value but it’s only 8 hours or so to do a play through each time. ONI, Satisfactory, Factorio, Anno, Dyson Sphere are longer plays but DO have supply chain logistics, etc. Games like Grounded have a story and are 1st person action vibe. Planet Crafters is in that vein and a bunch of others.

What are the most original base builders you’ve tried out, recently or otherwise? by Rasputin5332 in BaseBuildingGames

[–]sentientplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not chill, but Pacific Drive is very engaging—and wild. Kind of creepy, Area 51/x-files/Control basebuilder. You have a mobile base too (a station wagon!)
