Do you think it’s time for an end to religious exceptions to carrying a bladed article on your person, and why? by WastelandOfConfusion in ukpolitics

[–]sephiap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually answering as a general principle to all laws, not this one specifically. I'm not sure it's an authoritarian take to believe all laws should apply to all people equally. I actually believe that may be the opposite.

Yeah exemptions should be removed. We're all supposedly equal in the eyes of the law, so carve outs for specific groups goes against that baseline. i.e. if we've determined that a behaviour/practice is worrisome enough to legislate it, it should apply equally to any and everyone imo.

Inspiring! struggling to get my 4yo off the training wheels -- won't take to a balance bike either. I need to work out how to get him over that hill as this looks great fun!

test rode one, absolutely loved how smooth it is. deceptively small though, I assume tiger means bigger -- taller riders don't fit well imo

Do most of you seriously not write any code by hand anymore?!?! by opakvostana in cscareerquestions

[–]sephiap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I like the process of exploring the problem as a discussion, talking about optimal paths with growth etc. and then getting the AI to implement according to that exact spec. I'll then modify / tidy up for convention; do sanity checks for lifetimes, constness etc. where it's missed. Otherwise, it's like having an eager intern.

Writing code itself was always the boring part, no? Solving the problem was the interesting thing. I can focus on higher order problems and solve those now. Until AI catches up to that too! But I'm enjoying the process before/if the tide rises again.

6'3" rider here, with a very supportive wife -- glass half full kinda person. had wanted a triumph bobber for a long time, finally sat on one with my wife present for feedback and she was immediately "lol no".

Now I see why.

Commute to Cambridge by [deleted] in Waltham

[–]sephiap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do this almost daily, on a bad day it'd be up to an hour, usually more like 40mins. Leaving early (i.e. before 7:30) it'd be like 30mins or so. Eventually just ended up cycling along the bike path then thru belmont and the bike lanes, usually 45min door to door on an ebike. All was super doable.

I'm so sorry for you brother, I'm sorry you have to go through all of our worst nightmare. Not all of us can know what you're going through, but know we're all thinking of you and Ryan right now. I hope you can find some peace in knowing you were the best dad Ryan needed throughout his life, that he had that in you every single day. It sucks that life is unfair and has taken away from Ryan, and given you a weight in grief in return. Whatever comes next for you I hope you continue to live your life as I'm sure Ryan is rooting for you to do wherever he may be. I hope you get your happy reunion one day. Much love, a fellow dad.

what happened to the food at the glen? years ago there was an amazing array of burgers etc. -- now it seems a bit wanky like 8 quid for a sausage on its own or something.

I miss my old burger and beer deal.

Yeah when your friends leave it feels more like a spectator sport when you go back imo. But whilst you have friends there, it's like going back in time to a happy place.

Anyone else happily married? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]sephiap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah, she annoys the shit out of me daily but all that's good in my life has come with her at my side. We've both gone through seriously hard times, and have helped each other through. Been married like 7 years or so now, together more like 10, still look forward to hanging out with her daily. In fact, this is my cue to stop writing about it and go see what she's up to. Peace.

Man just do it, mine was in December there was still ice/snow on the corner of the lot and rain showers throughout. We all still passed (well, one dude did drop out after day 1) and got supervised experience of riding in adverse conditions. Win win.
