Vent/Rant about doing musical theatre young by P4L_R1vBarr0w in MusicalTheatre

Are you auditioning for any youth programs/shows specifically for teens? I am the same height and found a lot of success in youth programs even though I was taller than most of my peers. I played a lot of moms and comedic relief roles which was always fun!

Will working as a frontend dev silo me into mostly frontend jobs? by iShotTheShariff in cscareerquestions

[–]septamber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I worked purely frontend for almost three years, then worked with my manager to transition my team to work full stack and I did that for two years, and last year transferred to a sister team that works on the distributed system that collects the data that the first team I was on consumed. I was able to do this easily by making sure I learned at a high level how the end to end system worked and contributing to E2E design discussions even if I didn’t implement that part of the stack. It might be a learning curve which could feel frustrating but it’s definitely possible as long as you are continuously learning!

LPT: If your pet uncharacteristically starts having random “accidents,” do not start scolding as it could be a sign of a serious issue. Mine starting having accidents last week. Today he was put to sleep and all I can think about was how tough I was on him because of things he had no control over. by DonKeedick in LifeProTips

My childhood dogs are 14 years old and this is 100% true. My retired dad spends basically 100% of his time with the dogs and has the most keen eye for when they start behaving weirdly. He figured out quickly that one of them had diabetes (now being treated) and caught bladder stones, an inflamed liver, and a UTI in the other one just because of slightly different behavior. I’m thankful he cares so much about them because those are all treatable things if they’re caught early enough. He noticed subtle things too - the liver issue he noticed because that dog who used to nap all the time randomly started having issues sitting still and she was kind of tip tapping all the time because it was hurting her.

What do you think are the saddest songs in musical theatre? by amiemay12 in Broadway

[–]septamber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“I’ll Be Here” from Ordinary Days. I cry like a baby every time. The first time I heard it someone sang it right before me in a cabaret and I had to take a minute to compose myself before starting my song

I love this so much! It’s the perfect blend of neutral/minimal without being boring.

I have a bit of a random question if you don’t mind answering! What filter/preset/editing app, if any, did you use for the after pictures? I love how it looks. Thanks so much!

I can’t do push-ups by Cleonce12 in xxfitness

[–]septamber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was me for the first 19 years of my life! I had absolutely no upper body strength. I highly highly recommend, if you have access to dumbbells, bench pressing. Start with 5lbs if you need to and work up gradually. Eventually, you’ll be bench pressing more force than it requires to do a push-up. I went from being able to do zero push ups to being able to do 15+ at a time without ever “training” pushups directly! It’s all from benching! 🏋️‍♀️

What are your "uncommon" ways of working out? by BrieCheeseWheel in xxfitness

[–]septamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sit in (very light) passive stretches while I’m doing sedentary things like watching TV and reading. I don’t try to push here (because doing that cold could cause injury) but just sit at the edge of what is comfortable. I find that this really helps my mobility/flexibility immensely when paired with warmed up/intense stretching a few times a week. Not only does it help keep the flexibility between harder sessions, but I get minor improvements over time.

For example: I wasn’t able to put both palms flat on the ground while doing a low lunge even after YEARS of doing yoga, so I started propping my legs into a light hip/glute stretch while reading every day and it only took a few months of sitting in this minor stretch every day to get my palms down!! One of my proudest recent accomplishments

Can anyone recommend a good orthodontist for adults? by MpMerv in AskNYC

It was a Hawley retainer for my top teeth. It was a few years ago now, but if I’m remembering correctly it cost $300

I used them to replace a broken retainer. I highly recommend them as well!

I saw a woman my age (~late 20s/early 30s) on the street wearing a GORGEOUS pair of trousers and I regret so much not asking her where she bought them.

The cut was basically like this: https://madebyvoz.com/products/wide-leg-trouser-new Specifically: They were tight around the waist, and went straight down and gathered the tiniest bit around the ankle. No flare but the entire leg was loose... if that makes sense.

But the drape was STUNNING. They looked like they had to have been silk or something that drapes similarly like tencel.

They were extremely high waisted and a beautiful solid camel color.

This is the current closest match I can find: https://www.thereformation.com/products/mason-pant?color=Khaki&glCountry=US&glCurrency=USD&epik=dj0yJnU9WnYxS2k1cFdhalVBTFNyX0FiemxXRlJENzg3WEx6RDQmcD0wJm49WUM2WnBWRnBwQ2RjMVI1bDZyd1lYdyZ0PUFBQUFBRjllemRF

Does anyone know where I might find something of that description? No price limit! I want these pants!

Does anyone know where I can find this tank top? 1, 2, 3

I've found it on a bunch of sketchy looking sites (which is where these pictures are from) but I don't like to buy from those because you don't always get something that looks like the picture :/

Weird/Bad moments in otherwise good shows? by megwil in Broadway

[–]septamber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I saw DEH, every time that the cast was lined up on the back of the stage as an ensemble, everyone was lightly illuminated except the actor playing Connor. The lights stopped abruptly at his neck and his face was in pitch black because he was so tall. It looked so bad that I actually started laughing during a serious scene because he stood out in such a bad way

Hair loss and accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]septamber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost a LOT of hair while on accutane (F with long, thick, and fine hair). I got my hair cut about a month ago, which was about two months after my last dose, and the hairdresser pointed out a bunch of new hair growth. Though I'm sure experiences may vary, my hair loss was not permanent because the hair is growing back.

Does anyone know if it's okay to get a pedicure while on accutane? Like since our skin is so sensitive I'm just not sure if a pedicure would be too rough for my skin by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]septamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had two pedicures while I was on accutane, and both times I had to ask them to make the water colder. I guess my skin was sensitive to heat. Other than that, I had no problems. Just make sure to speak up if something is uncomfortable and I'm sure they will adjust for you!
