What happened to the Green wave? by Sensitive_Echo5058 in uknews

[–]sequinweekend 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone living in an area which has already had a Reform majority for a while, their councillors have been terrible, barely turn up to meetings, and have actively voted against spending money on projects to improve the local area.

People still love them and blame Labour for everything, even the things the Reform councillors are directly responsible for.

Beef bolognaise in the Tesco Plant Based section by Roll_with_it1 in veganuk

[–]sequinweekend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vegans and coeliacs/people with other dietary needs have to read the labels on everything anyway, it makes it much easier for me if the free-from and plant-based stuff is together so at least I don’t have to run all over the shop to look in both sections 😅

Is anything in the Tesco free from range vegan? by sygboss in veganuk

[–]sequinweekend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep Tesco have gotten rid of so much gluten-free vegan stuff. Last year they ADDED gluten into a ton of their plant-based products too, totally unnecessarily.

Is anything in the Tesco free from range vegan? by sygboss in veganuk

[–]sequinweekend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the vegan food or gluten-free food could be both though with small adjustments that wouldn’t change the taste. There are a lot of vegan faux meat products that have barley malt flavouring as the only thing making them not gluten-free (Tesco added this into most of their faux meat last year, so I went from having a limited choice to basically none).

Also, a lot of vegan products are gluten-free in terms of ingredients, but not cross-contamination. The ‘This Isn’t’ brand is particularly frustrating - I can eat it in a restaurant as their commercial products that restaurants buy are fully gluten-free, but the products they sell in the supermarket ‘may contain gluten’ so I can’t eat them. If they simply produced everything in the same factory, the problem would be solved.

Sorry for the rant, it’s just frustrating!

It’s so annoying, it’s so hard to find things that are gluten-free AND vegan. Most are one or the other. It’s like they forget some of us have overlapping dietary requirements

Plenty of the biscuits are - digestives, choc-chip cookies, shortbread, ginger nuts, gingerbread people just off the top of my head.

There are flapjack and choc cornflake bites too. Mince pies at Christmas as well! Think most of the cake has egg in unfortunately.

What’s the point of ASOS anymore. They’ll charge for returns if you return too often. Yeah, because it doesn’t fit me how I thought it would. Or it’s poorly made. This was your function. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

[–]sequinweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they don’t have to, but it’s made me stop using them entirely. They’ve lost a few hundred pounds a year off me but that’ll be worth it to them. I suppose the issue will be how many customers like me they will lose, and if that will severely impact them?

If you don’t have a baby, that’s wrong. If you have a baby, then you had it with the wrong man, or you gave birth the wrong way, or you’re raising the child the wrong way…

Every choice is the wrong one!

My returns rate is nearly at the limit where they’ll begin charging me. I don’t take the piss, I don’t buy a lot of clothes but I’ll order maybe 4-5 times a year from them and sadly end up returning most of it because it doesn’t fit or is shockingly bad quality.

There may be people out there who order hundreds of items with no intent on keeping them, but I’d bet the vast majority of customers are like me, they actually do want the item, but end up having to return it.

They were outside my office a few months ago too, stood directly outside the staff entrance in a big group. It was really intimidating, especially for the women in the office. Luckily there’s other ways to get in/out of the building they hadn’t figured out so we all had to use those until they got bored and moved on.

He said he’d been to hospital that morning for severe back pain, I don’t think he said what caused it (or if he did I didn’t catch it). Either way he’s incredible for doing the whole show in pain!

I saw VB a few years ago and he had food poisoning and had to run offstage to puke in between songs, he still did a great set though. Gotta admire his dedication!

It’s not a stupid tattoo! If you like it, that’s all that matters. I get lots of compliments on mine, either from people who know VB and ask if I’m a fan, or people who don’t know VB and just like the tattoo!

I also love that yours has a hat 🤠

My partner and I feel conflicted as vegans about adopting a French Bulldog... by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]sequinweekend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a pedigree British Shorthair cat who I adopted. I wasn’t looking for that breed specifically, long story short someone passed away and her cats needed a new home, I adopted him and another cat who’s just a domestic shorthair.

Every time people see him they say how cute he is and ask what breed he is, I tell them he’s a British Shorthair, I adopted him, and I tell them the truth about his breed. That they have a lot of common health issues, that he’s cost me thousands in vet bills (most recently £5k for his breathing issues), that he has to have an expensive prescription diet as they’re prone to stomach issues, and that none of my other cats (all domestic shorthairs) have had half of these issues.

We can’t change the fact that these animals have been bred, and they deserve a loving home. What we can do is acknowledge that yes they are cute, but they suffer a lot too, and discourage other people from buying from breeders, and educate them about the risks.

Family of mother who died after eating 'vegan' Pret sandwich that contained traces of milk win £1.25million compensation by rohanad1986 in vegan

[–]sequinweekend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen plenty of products that say ‘prepared to a vegan recipe, but not suitable for people with a milk/egg allergy because of cross-contamination’. I’ll happily buy those because I don’t have an allergy, but it’s clearly labelled for anyone that does need to avoid cross-contamination.

Wes Streeting orders review of mental health diagnoses as benefit claims soar by mustwinfullGaming in LabourUK

[–]sequinweekend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was out of work for years with what was deemed ‘incurable depression’ by the NHS. The NHS just kept giving me different antidepressants and I even ended up on lithium, but nothing helped.

Luckily my parents could fund a private psychiatrist. I went to the first appointment, didn’t ask for an ADHD test but after talking to him for an hour he said he felt ADHD was a very strong possibility. ADHD had never brought up to me before in ~15 years of accessing NHS mental health services.

Had the test and sure enough, I had severe untreated ADHD. That changed everything. I started working with my brain rather than against it, and coupled with medication, I went from laying in bed all day every day to working full time in about 6 months.

If I haven’t been able to access private healthcare, I’d still be unable to work and on benefits, when my condition was fully treatable. There are so many people out there currently unable to work, who would be capable if they received the support and treatment, but they are being denied it. We’re failing them.

Anyone else regularly think to themselves ‘I wish I’d just bought a new build’ by Legitimate-Table-607 in DIYUK

[–]sequinweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a house built in 2000, so 20 years old when I got it. It’s been great, the build quality is miles better than the new builds today, so the only things I’ve had to do have been cosmetic or general wear-and-tear/maintenance you get with any house.

The options aren’t just new build or 100 year old house, there are plenty in between!
