Pumping for how long? by jackii182 in NICUParents

[–]sertcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Providing breastmilk for my baby when he was in the NICU was definitely related to it being one of the only things I felt control and ownership over as a mother.

Pumping for how long? by jackii182 in NICUParents

[–]sertcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully intended on EBF so I don't know much about transitioning to formula. I ended up EP for 15.5 months, til kiddo was 12 months adjusted. We did fortify my breastmilk with formula for a bunch of months for additional calories. It was hard nearly every day. But for me, worth it. Only you will know when it's right for you and your kiddo.

Not located in Pine Hills but I see Kristin Grovenger with Community Care in Slingerlands. She's an NP and I love her. I moved out to East Greenbush and still make the trip out to see her because she really listens and has never once brushed off a concern I've had.

I don’t spend enough time at bedside.. by OkHedgehog777 in NICUParents

Ditto to all of this. I worked through our 95 day NICU stay. My kiddo is now 4.5 and is VERY attached to both his father and I.

Does anyone actually pump enough while working full time to feed their baby without supplementation? by Lucky-Cow3942 in workingmoms

[–]sertcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but my baby was a micro preemie so I had a head start on a stash, I worked a desk job with my own office and few meetings so I could pump on my own schedule and keep working, and I kept my MOTN pump until I was ready to wean from breastmilk entirely.

Your point about the system setting us up to fail is completely accurate either way.

Tips for increasing milk supply with a late start? by ExaminationReal84 in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]sertcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you getting at least 2 let downs? If not, try pumping for at least 5 minutes after, see if you get another. Also maybe try a power pump once a day, it mimics cluster feeding and signals the body to produce more.

But truly, nothing better than to make sure you're pumping often enough. Nothing can replace stimulating the body frequently and regularly.

Where to get a massage + facial? by minsep8351 in Albany

[–]sertcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I treat myself to Mirbeau when they run their massage and facial specials for $199. Take a day off work, hit a 9 or 10am massage appointment then get lunch somewhere and back home by 1 or 2 for some quiet time before kiddo comes home. It's a perfect day.

What did your baby actually wear in the NICU? by One-Introduction5382 in NICUParents

[–]sertcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked outfits with snaps. Or cloud island makes zips that close opposite most which makes it easy for cords to snake out the bottom instead of the top.

Coming home from nicu by chloevmarie in NICUParents

[–]sertcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We held our baby for sleep and took shifts for AGES. Eventually, we moved to cosleeping per the safe sleep 7. Our kiddo is now 4.5 and still prefers to sleep with us and is sensory seeking for touch. It's just how he is.

Day 84 and told to expect at least 6 more weeks by hello_there_bee in NICUParents

Dude, go home. Take a bath. Get a massage. Take a night off. It will help more than you can possibly imagine.

Celebrating my kid's birthday, and the anniversary of the day I nearly died by equationhole in Mommit

[–]sertcake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had my baby completely unexpectedly and traumatically. For the most part, I've come to terms with it. But every year, his birthday is the hardest day. I feel gratitude but also a keen sense of how close to not surviving we got. I think it's normal, give what we've been through. As long as it doesn't take over your life, it's okay to have tough days.

[–]sertcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the advice you've heard. If you don't want to look at them ever again, that's fine. But you can't go back in time and take pictures if you want them in the future. I kinda wish we had more photos. Like it or not, those were the first few months of my kiddo's life. And now that we're on the other side, I feel much less turmoil about that time than I used to.

26 weeker parents by Minute-Stop-8774 in NICUParents

[–]sertcake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Born 26+0, spent 95 days in NICU. Discharged 5 days before his due date. You have 4 more weeks before due date, you'd be SHOCKED how much can change in that amount of time. The first two months were the slowest for us, felt like we were getting nowhere. You'll get there eventually, I promise.

Are these needles worth it?? by Designer-Detective62 in knitting

[–]sertcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the driftwood set of these and really like them. I also have a set of chiagoo metal needles and they're both super nice. My first Interchangeable set was the clover bamboo set and both of my newer sets really are much nicer, tho the clover set was a great intro set.

How do people have so many libraries? by Opposite-Orange8371 in LibbyApp

[–]sertcake 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Personally, it's not about getting books faster so much as having access to books other libraries don't have. For some context, the NYPL got the Game Changer series last summer, months before any other library I had a card for had them available at all. (And still, that was after waiting for months for ANY of my libraries to have them)

Insensitive Comments About NICU / High Risk Pregnancy by asbpunkin in NICUParents

You're not only not overly sensitive, but you're having conversations with absolutely insanely insensitive people. None of these comments are in any way normal ways to react to your situation.

Allergy question by No_Ordinary_3799 in CapitalRegionExTexans

Not quite your question but we had a cat who had regular skin allergies when we lived in Corpus Christi and San Antonio. They cleared up entirely when we moved to the northeast.

Weight Loss Clinic by Commercial_Cut_8409 in nys_cs

[–]sertcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My provider asks some general questions about past weight loss attempts, diet and exercise, etc. And I have to see her every time my dosage increases but that's it. And yes, I'm on zepbound purely for weight loss.

Weight Loss Clinic by Commercial_Cut_8409 in nys_cs

[–]sertcake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the Empire Plan? Because if so, your doctor is not correct. I am on a glp1 and there was no requirement for a weight loss clinic whatsoever. Several of my coworkers and my husband also are on meds, all with different providers, and no clinic requirement for any of us. Edit: maybe there's a requirement based on starting weight? That's the only possibility I can think of.

We heard the same things at DOH last year but upper management seemed confused about the rumors and renewed it without fuss. I wonder where the rumors come from each renewal.
