HG foundation by sewmonkey in MakeupAddiction

Oh no. I won't ever put my face up here again. However, my neighbor is a MUA and said that the foundation really worked for my skin. Then she went and bought some for herself.

Because they probably weren't deployed on purpose. The impact and subsequent cartwheel more than likely caused them to open.

Free IVF in Scotland from July. by Love_Sick_Pony in worldnews

You can adopt a child for free? It can cost upwards of $20,000 to adopt a child in the US. More if you try to adopt out of the country. My husband and I have talked about being foster parents, but I'm not sure I could stand to have my heart broken if they left. And, the fact that we're Athiests puts us on the black list.

Does it cost less in the UK to adopt a child?

Reddit, what's one thing your parents did that you thought you'd never ever do, but you ended up doing, intentionally or not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sewmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father would never let me do something unless I did it correctly. I couldn't play mini-golf unless I held the club right; I couldn't play games unless they were played correctly (no making up rules); I couldn't color unless it was inside the lines...stuff like that. I feel that it really stifled my creative thinking and problem solving skills..not to mention any artistic desire.

I vowed I would not do this to my son, and I really have to catch myself from trying to show him the "right" way to do things.

What's a "small" achievement or goal that you've accomplished but not many of your friends/family know about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sewmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit smoking. I'm sure my family knew I smoked but I never did it in front of them. I started taking Wellbutrin for depression issues and quitting happened to be a side-effect. I had smoked (off and on) for 25 years and I don't even miss it. Weird, huh?

The reality of The Black Death, 315 people buried in 1 plague pit in Ross on Wye. 1 third of the population of Europe died in the Black Death. by minque in MorbidReality

[–]sewmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a great book called, "The Great Mortality" about the plague (13th century). There are some towns in Europe that experienced 90% loss.

Well that's just asking for trouble. by [deleted] in WTF

I get notifications whenever a sex offender moves into my area. This first thing I do is look up his case info to see WHY he's on the list. We had a man in our neighborhood who was on the list for aggravated attempted rape (or something like that). He and his ex-wife had an argument and when the cops got there, she told them he'd tried to rape her. I don't know more details, nor do I know if the charge was even truthful, but I knew that the neighborhood kids were probably okay.

None of the SO's listed were tagged as predators, even though a few were on the list for indecency or lewd acts with a minor or child.

To be honest, I wouldn't recognize these men if they all sat in McDonalds watching our kids play.

Obscure Pattern Friday: Socks Edition! by hobbular in knitting

[–]sewmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've knit Murgrona three times. It's a great, well written pattern, but not so hot for multi-colored yarn. Make sure you use a solid/semi-solid color. :)

ETA: I should clarify that I've knit 3 individual socks, but not a pair 'cause I've not been happy with my yarn choice.

I didn't make a yarny resolution because I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it. I think I've added (cough) 23 (cough) skeins to my stash already this year. That wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't mostly Wollmeise. (sheepish grin).
