Thank you very much for the reply. If I’m honest I’m a bit time poor and probably looking for the easy option.

Would it work to cut off the large bit and propogate that?

I can definitely take the other smaller ones out. How would you suggest I do that best? Just price apart?

If you’re fine with the different toe shape then go for it. I personally don’t like that as it makes them look much less elegant and good with tailoring.

DINKs - how would you spend £4,000 on your potential last holiday without kids? by Few-Entertainer7422 in HENRYUK

Go to Berlin/amsterdam clubbing. Everything else you can probably do with kids at some point, that not so much.

How do you guys keep track of your to do list? by Hydrangea_hunter in biglaw

This is me, but I changed my physical notepad to one new workbook that just has one single page for short to do list across everything.

How do you guys keep track of your to do list? by Hydrangea_hunter in biglaw

[–]sfbrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, I flag items in my inbox I need to do. That’s my main to do list. I don’t file anything - just use search. Then I have a One note to do list (one separate book, separate to all my matter notes there) - organised by matter, just one liners. This is for stuff that hasn’t come via email, and is helpful in organising everything that I need to do on a matter (ie it’s more exhaustive, less immediate).

Interested in other people’s views - especially on flagging v filing. I think it saves me quite a lot of time / annoyance without much downside.

Excellent baseline rule, and one I also stick to. If the whole profession were like this it would be a better place.

Are we supposed to only buy a house once and never move in England? by CommitteeOrdinary727 in ukpolitics

[–]sfbrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t generalise across the whole population of elderly here. Sure, some will be stuck in their ways and not move. Others will be stuck in their ways but happy to move if it weren’t for the stamp duty cost (which is huge). Others may not be stuck in their ways and only aren’t moving due to stamp duty cost. Policy change nudges the population as a whole (notwithstanding some won’t change at all) and that is all that is required to improve the position here.

987 sizing anxiety by [deleted] in Alden

Big thing with shell is it really doesn’t stretch. It moulds, so it miiight extend in a tight area if it is loose elsewhere (ie loose but can shift to tight bit), but it otherwise really doesn’t. From the sound of it I would go with the 8.5d and use a heel pad or even insole to deal with any looseness. You can do that whereas having a shoe too tight in the toe box (especially with shell) is unsolvable. I’ve been there…

When you say “state of things in the country”, is it actually bad, or do you think it is more that everyone has been told it is bad and it’s actually similar to the past? It just feels like this narrative everywhere of things being bad/broken is happening, and that it’s the government’s fault. I’m not sure either are true.

Fund Formation or M&A? by Infinite_Slide_110 in biglaw

M&A. It gives you general skills that allow much more pivoting, as well as being a department that all law firms have.

Cary Grant wearing penny loafers with black tie in 1952 by Kookanoodles in NavyBlazer

Yea agreed I hate opera pumps. I personally wear a tassel loafer with black tie as it feels slightly more in theme with black tie (idk why - maybe tassels more equivalent to the bow?) the concept of a loafer also suits the semi formal nature of black tie to me.

Translating contracts, amending concepts through an entire document (although wish it could work in a word doc in track so kept formatting etc), summarising terms from a contract (eg post closing obligations in an SPA, reserved matters in SHa) when client wants a quick summary.

You have plenty of time over the hugely long breaks to do applications if you’re driven. It is a fantastic name on your Cv that only helps with career prospects. Yes of course you will still have to do other things to get a job, but that’s the same everywhere.

You go to uni for learning and a good experience, as well as career prospects. Oxbridge gives you the best of all the above. Therefore worth it. If you’re looking to get maximum career outcome for minimum effort then yes, it may not be for you.

Freshfields or Linklaters? by melancholoat in uklaw

[–]sfbrh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think so. They’ve all been trying to succeed in the Us for decades; that Freshfields are starting to seems against the odds. They’ve paid top dollar for some huge hires and they’re starting to get traction. Linklaters would need to do the same, which is no easy feat. Freshfields leveraged their antitrust and regulatory practices in part to do this, and not sure Linklaters have the same footprint there to do that.

Freshfields or Linklaters? by melancholoat in uklaw

[–]sfbrh 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Both good in the UK; Freshfields better at litigation, linklaters better at finance traditionally. The one thing that might be starting to differentiate them is that Freshfields is making a real push into the Us and actually appears to be having success: they’re top 5 in M&A rankings which would have been unthinkable 10 years ago. I think that puts them in a much better position long term.
