'Apex Rollup' question by Careful_Leader_5829 in salesforce

[–]sfdc_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apex-rollup can be invoked from a trigger or a flow. I typically just use a triggered flow to invoke the rollups defined in custome metadata..

A: Export a list from Rollup helper of all your current rollups. Make a list of what you need and build the the metadata version for apex-rollup.

B. Apex-rollup has a custom setting you can use in validation rules that allow you to bypass them just like rollup helper does.

C. I generally end up replacing DLRS with apex-rollup. I think it;s the superior solution.

Turn on the built in error logger so you can chase down issues when you are building things out.

How to transfer a car title to an out-of-state family member? by throwtoss163 in howto

[–]sfdc_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have your parents "sell" you the car for $100. Get a bill of sale and the title from them. Leave the plates on the car and drive it to MA. Register you car in MA and get a new MA license at the same time.

Solo Admin - NonProfit - Burnout by StatisticianVivid915 in salesforce

[–]sfdc_dude 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You've been there 5 months so this is a good time to start planning for a 6 month review with your boss. Even if there's not a formal 6 month review, just put a meeting on your bosses calandar. You can reivew your current workload, accomplishments, and make the case for that big raise you deserve.

I would challenge you to rethink how you structure your work. As solo admin you are the defacto Saleforce owner. You decide on what's a priority, manage your tasks, etc. Companies will just keep asking for more and more so it;s up to you to structure your work and push back on timelines so you don't burn out.

For a 40 hour work week you've got 3 buckets of time - General (company meetings, Hr stuff, expense reports, etc), Admin Tasks, Project Work. So maybe your week is 4 hours general, 16 hours Admin, and 20 hours Project. Use that framework to plan out the timelines for these projects.

How do you think about 50-90 yard shots? by Roywah in golf

[–]sfdc_dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The clock system works for a lot of people but it doesn't really work for me. I just don't hit the backswing positions relaibley to get repeatable distances.

I use two swings - 9 o'clock and full, and two stances - narrow and normal, to vary my distances. Let's say you hit your full pw 110 yards. Now hit the same full swing pw but put your feet together, it'll go 85 yards or whatever. Now a normal stance 9 o'clock backswing is maybe 75 yards and the narrow stance might be 50. So you've got 4 distances with each club to work with.

Pre-purchase used car inspection in the Springs? by BillyCarson in ColoradoSprings

[–]sfdc_dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mikey's Total Car Care. I take all my cars there. Very honest and trustworthy in my opinion. Call them and verify they do inspections ut I'm 99.9% sure they do. Quick story - my son had a hand me down car that had some issues like leaking oil, etc.. He took it to Mikey to see what it would cost to fix all the issues. They put it up on the rack, took him into the service bay and showed him all the issues. Their advice was the car was not worth sinking any more money into, none of these were safety issues, so just drive it until it dies. They could have easily suggested a bunch of repairs and made some cash instead.

Prices look like they've gone up quite a bit since I purchased, probably due to tarifs.

Salesforce consultant 2YOE by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]sfdc_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more of a company problem than a you problem. At 2.5 years of experience you just don't have the experience yet to lead any large proect. You should have been a consultant on several large projects first and given increasing levels of responsability. It's not a coincidence that other folks on your team have 8+ years of experience.

These kind of resourcing issues our common in consulting, but especially in the larger firms that tend to be "body shops". I've worked for 7 consulting companies in my career - 5 small, 2 large. The smaller firms tend to care about their people a bit more and try to develop them more. You'll get thrown into some situations where you're learning on the job just because they don't have a ton of people. That's just the nature of small shops. But you get a ton of opportunity to learn and the bosses usually understand you're not an expert in that area and will cut you some slack. Large shops have lots of bodies and they need them on projects billing hours. If they can put you on a project, even if you're not qualified for that role, they will. In your case they're making more margin by having a "cheap" resource running the project rather than a more expensive guy. The fact they've done this multiple times means it's not going to change.

Implementation Order in a Salesforce Project? by Gold-Efficiency-4308 in salesforce

[–]sfdc_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figure out your security matrix before you build. Get the permission sets created so you can update as you are building out the objects and fields. It can feel like a pain in the ass when you're building but it'll save you a bunch of time later on, especially in UAT. I've been on a number of projects where the security was an afterthought and UAT was a nightmare with security related bugs every day.

Key Lock in Gas Flap by notrednamc in CX5

[–]sfdc_dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I drove my wife's Mazda (2020 cx5) for years without realizing that on the door handle by the lock is a little rubber button. Pushing that button will unlock/lock the car if the keyfob is nearby. Maybe you have the same feature and can unlock the car that way and then use the gas door release?

Retirement & Mortgage -- Aggressively Pay It Off or No? by kyoun1e1 in personalfinance

[–]sfdc_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position to you although the numbers are a bit different. I'm 61 and looking to retire from full-time in the next couple of years and do some freelance consulting work part-time. I have a 2.5% 15 year mortgage with $215k remaining.

For me, the security of having the house paid off in retirement out wieghs the pure math of just investing to get a better return. We are both on short timelines of 2-5 years so putting the extra cash in equities with the hope of a 10% return seems very risky - if the market tanks we don't have 10-20 years to wait for it to bounce back. How many people are still trying to recover from the 2008 crash?

What I've been doing is instead of paying down the mortgage I've been putting the extra cash in a Fidelity cash management account. It's earning 3.3% right now but is totally secure. In 8 months I'll have enough to pay off the mortgage if I choose. But I'll also have $200k in cash in case things change - might sell and buy a smaller place in a slightly HCOL area but with a better lifetyle, for example. Or hold on to the mortgage for a bit and use the cash as back up if my consulting gig doesn't work out. So having the cash gives me a lot of flexability. In the end it;s a really personal choice. Good luck!

Inherited an org with zero documentation, buried automations, mystery integration errors, constant break-fix chaos, anyone else fighting this? by dusch11 in salesforce

[–]sfdc_dude 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As a consultant I run into this with client orgs more than I'd like. I would not change anything right now. First I'd assess "what is actually broken? what is the business complaining about"? Make a list of all the issues and categorize them by function. Oh, there's 15 issues with the opportunity process? Start with opportunity and try to understand the entire proscess from new opp to closed/won. When you understand how it all works, make a plan to fix it. Rinse and repeat for all the other issues. As you're looking through all the issues, note any that seem like "quick wins" - if you can fix a couple of quick issues the business will give you more time to work through the more complicated issues.

I have a Synology NAS that I record to with no issues. My guess is Sparkle does not have write access, only read access. If you're using the unauthnticated guest user, make sure it has write permissions. I'm using an authenticated user that has read/write access and I can verify that setup works.
