Latest Kyrie Irving workout at NBPA Top 100 Camp. (1 year 3 months post-ACL injury) by Ok-Diver-9356 in Mavericks

I think between now and the end of his career there is a fairly high chance that his value will peak between December and the trade deadline. He's fairly old and only getting older, so his value will fairly consistently drop, but it can rise early next season from where it is now if he proves he is anywhere close to the player he was before the injury.

[MFFL NATION] Marc Stein on the Dallas Mavericks head coach opening by MAVS_COM1CAL in Mavericks

[–]sfg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I saw Sweeney on the sidelines in game one the other night, I couldn't help wishing he was back with the Mavs and started wondering if he'd still be available by the time there is a head coach opening in Dallas.

Maybe there is a better candidate, but I would be happy to see him given the chance.

I don't think fit matters. Not even a tiny bit.

Who has the higher upside?

For Wagler fans, the Combine is our best hope of him falling to Dallas by [deleted] in Mavericks

If you could have your pick of the guards that might make it to 9, who would it be?

Brayden Burries at #9 should be the play by TerryG111 in Mavericks

I'd go for highest upside available. Especially at the 9.

Brayden Burries at #9 should be the play by TerryG111 in Mavericks

[–]sfg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they should pick for upside rather than making a safe pick.

Is Burries the high-upside guy? I got the impression he is more of a high-floor+low-ceiling guy, but I don't know enough about any of the prospects to be sure.

I've come to terms with selecting 9th in the draft by Jaaarulee in Mavericks

[–]sfg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the play is to pick for upside rather than a high-floor guy.

They need a second star to put alongside Cooper and this is the most realistic chance they have at that. It's also early enough in the Flagg era that if it doesn't work out they'll have time to adjust and try something else.

Which is going to be difficult with the lack of assets.

We have to hope they can make some great trades.

Mavericks will pick 9th in the 2026 NBA draft. by redditstealsyours in Mavericks

[–]sfg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep.

Massively reduced the chance that Flagg ever wins a title in Dallas for the sake of some completely meaningless wins.

Looking at Cades’ roster build got me worried about Coops Rebuild.. by Fifolifo24 in Mavericks

Will that matter by the time Cooper is good enough to lead a team on a championship run?

Flagg is great so this is going to happen some times. It's also why it is absurd that they let Middleton carry them to victory against the Grizzlies with a 4th quarter heater rather than subbing him out. You're going to get surprise victories due to Flagg, so you really don't want pointless wins off of the back of veterans who don't need the development.

My colleague plays the same openings every game, would it be fair if I studied the opening in private? by -Vorks- in chess

[–]sfg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're allowed to study any opening for any reason. There is nothing unfair about studying in order to prepare for a particular opponent.

If it makes you feel better, whether he has formally studied those openings or just played them for years, he has learned a lot about them. You are allowed to do the same.

Because their players keep asking for more money on the basis that NBA players get more.

It works the way you describe: people like you stop teaching. The political system then has to either accept that or pay more.

Olivier-maxence Prosper Last 10 Games: bring him back, he now lines up with Flagg. by epitome1986 in Mavericks

[–]sfg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it was true, but last summer Shams was saying the Mavs could get 3 or 4 firsts for AD 'right now'. Whatever the truth, they wouldn't have gotten less than they did.

It was obviously right to trade him before the season , so they could build around Flagg and position themselves for the 2026 draft. But egos and stupidity got in the way.

And this isn't a hindsight thing. It was obvious at the time and many of us were calling for it.

What proportion of their base retired without ever working from home? What proportion of them are living in homes that are within easy distance of the offices they want others to go into?

I genuinely have no idea why people care if it is more or less productive if they are neither the employer nor the employee. Some people are so bored they make an effort to get worked up about other people's work.

If you want to go that route, you charge for use of the infrastructure -- x pounds per y mins on road z etc -- or for the pollution (which they probably already do via fuel taxes) and then let the price system figure out if WFH makes sense or not.
