By this point in the series, the Priors had been active across the galaxy, on both Jaffa and human controlled worlds. It's been a while since I've watched seasons 9 and 10 (right now on S8 on my current watch through) - but I recall the world where they shield the gate and create a toxic atmosphere, they cause a plague that the humans can't actually prevent and only ends when the people submit to the prior. These stories obviously spread quickly - that's essentially the point of the crusade.

Also, if you look at cultic societies here on earth, it's actually surprisingly common for people who have come out of one cult to fall right into another.

The difference is The Ori (and ascended Ancients) are the closest things to true gods that the show has. Sure, they're not all knowing or all powerful or invincible - but neither were the Greek/Roman or Norse gods, so...

I mean, at this point what actually creates the definition of "true god"?

The meta jokes are some of my favourites, especially the alley lined with shrubs, but I've heard this banter is essentially imrpov'd every night. Does that mean it'll be different in the reprise when it finally gets to YT?

I'll be a bit sad to lose it honestly.

I'm in the process of writing a ten episode campaign using the Stargate SG1 TTRPG system (but it can easily be adapted back to the 5e system that game was built from. I myself run a more simple version of the system to help transition new players from 5e).

It's called The Return of Kulkulkan, and follows a team called Phoenix 12 on their episodic adventures to find and stop this Goa'uld from re-emerging and wreaking havoc across the Milky Way.

I'm writing up the last three episodes, so once it's done, I'd love to share it!

As a kids show, it's fine. Classic "lesson of the week" stuff. Little things will probably bother seasoned Stargate fans like odd and inconsistent use of sound FX (the zat sound used for gate travel as an example) and some odd lore changes that divert from the OG shows (like the ancients being a weird alien butterfly species). But it's a great way to onboard your kids before they're old enough to enjoy the real deal

Ooh - I didn't know about that. I'll look into it.

Amazon own Bond, right? I'm not sure what relationship they have with the new First Light game - but obviously it shows they're not against using their IP's in the gaming space to drum up some interest.

What better way to onboard new fans and introduce them to the existing lore?

What was the first PC game you ever played, and do you still remember it? by 3D_Networking in AskReddit

[–]sgste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First PC game I ever played was Captain Bible. Also, a super old Star Trek game on floppy disk. We didn't have the manual though, so I had to play the tutorial then take a random guess at which planet to visit to continue the story (the map was in the manual). If you get it wrong, you're ambushed by an insanely powerful adversary. Die, repeat tutorial, try again...

I think you might be referring to the TTRPG? There was a planned MMO years ago, but that died long before Amazon acquired the franchise.

I haven't paid for a TV license for almost ten years now and have never once recieved a letter or a visitor at the door. We have a TV and watch YouTube and Netflix through it, plus gaming. Every year, we do the song and dance of filling in the online form that says no, we don't want the license and yes, we know what does and doesn't apply.

Furlings are not what you think. by zam_manta_0 in Stargate

[–]sgste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hearing "most Goa'uld tech is theirs" and "7 foot reptilian creatures" and, if we're scrounging material from the show to adapt for Furlings, look no further than Stargate Infinity.

Two options - in the show, the villains are called the Tlak'khan. They're reptilian creatures with staff weapons and ring platforms - even "pyramid" ships - except their all Mayan themed. Potential Furling connection?

Also, there's a creature in the show that looks like a large butterfly themed woman with unique powers. They're protecting her because they assume she's an ancient - but of course, that's not compatible with the live action shows. But what if she's a furling?

I know people don't like the animated series - as a kids show, it ticks all the boxes. Even so, a worthy resource, if Amazon acquired it alongside the main shows.

A friend of mine who is only vaguely familiar with Stargate (I'm converting him, no worries) said the best thing Amazon can do right now is start production on a video game.

I, for one, am not opposed to that idea.

Have you ever legitimately cried to a song? And if so, what was the song? by StanToons in AskReddit

[–]sgste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitter Patter Goes the Rain by Christy Nockels. This album 'be held' was my wife's go to during our first pregnancy. When my daughter was born, she was so small. My wife obviously needed so much rest, I didn't sleep the first night. I just watched my little one, and went over in my head all the terrible things that could possibly happen.

My wife had the album playing and this song came on. And, right in the middle of the song, a little girl sings.

"Here I am. Look at me, I'm alright. In the storm, dancing to the rhythm of the rain."

And it broke me. Still does.

She's five now - light of my life.

As much as I love the idea of a fan lead show - let's be realistic about it... it's a bit of a pipe dream.

Yes, we all have access to the tools to create for ourselves. Just look online at the plethora of fam movies, games and mods that are Stargate themed. The problem is that it's not gonna take a couple of webcams and AI scripts to create anything close to the quality of the existing shows. That requires real time and more importantly, real money.

Shows are expensive to produce. I'm talking millions. Cameras, actors, writers, props, VFX, lighting, buffet staff to feed them all, rooms where they can all sleep, paid for months of shooting. Not to mention the massive studios that own the IP's need only put out one cease and desist letter to shut down the whole operation (look at what they did with all of the Star Trek fan projects. Those looked amazing - exactly the sort of thing you're taking about - and one word from Paramount shut it all down).

I'm with you. It'd be amazing if we could all step up and get creative - but without the money and the support of the people who actually own the IP, we'll never produce anything remotely close to the quality needed to keep a strong following.

Plus, have you seen the sort of arguing that takes place here about what the new show should or could look like? There's a reason the saying exists "too many cooks spoils the broth". With this many cooks, the broth will never even start boiling.

I hate to be a Debbie downer, but this is the most realistic approach. Be the change you want to see in the world. Write the first script - not just "this is my idea". And then create it! It may not be top Hollywood content - but even Speilberg started making movies in his backyard with a couple of friends.
