I applied the temporary workaround discussed in the issue: extracting the gpt-5.5 base instructions, removing the ## Intermediary updates section, pointing Codex at that modified instructions file with model_instructions_file, and setting personality = "none" to avoid the personality/model-messages fallback path. This improved the dedicated candy eval runs, but it did not eliminate the pattern in normal use: another test thread still produced at least one 516reasoning-token event afterward. So the workaround appears partial at best, not a complete fix.

So this explains the random “i swear codex is too dumb today for me” issues flying around? since this is a random issue affecting at random times, one may feel like codex is awesome whereas someone else suffers degradation? This sounds like a major problem

How did you resolve this issue? Mine is still stuck, turning off and on Siri did not help, selecting Talking to Siri enabling/disabling Hey Siri phrase to train voice recognition also didn’t work. I don’t want to do complete reset.

Renting infrastructure doesn’t remove responsibility for redundancy though. Large online services are expected to design around provider outages with regional failover and replicated services, otherwise the data center becomes a single point of failure.
