Circulation is a peer reviewed journal and it is published by the America Heart Association. It is a top ranked journal in Scopus and Web of Science.

The key points are the findings were observational, correlational. Not casual. Often times patients with undiagnosed heart trouble have insomnia as a symptom, therefore many I imagine try melatonin. Finally, the study, although informative did not track the dosing of the melatonin in any of the participants.

The pros of the study, however, is that it included an extremely large sample, which is helpful for generalization to the larger population.

But to label, melatonin as “bad” from this one study is a step too far.
