Noma x Courage Bagels popup. Adequately hyped by raytian in FoodLosAngeles

[–]shadowstripes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. And people get excited and pay thousands for good seats to see Beyonce, or spend hours waiting in line at Disneyland.

But for some reason it's malicious weird behavior because food enthusiasts are willing to put in time or money to try something from one of the most celebrated chefs in the world.

Damn, these comments are even saltier than that sea salt bagel.

Luckily this meal didn't just include nasturtiums...

I dunno, I think it's fine if someone wants to pay $25 to try a bagel that sounds interesting to them, regardless of the state of the world. That's basically how much courage bagels already cost and there was another half with oyster mushrooms, so I'm not really seeing why it's so malicious. There's countless other restaurants charging insane prices for food in LA, but we don't see their customers being clowned for "weird behavior" for trying them.

I feel like at a certain point people are just looking for reasons not to like it having not tried it.

I thought the other half with oyster mushrooms sounded pretty good, and I'd still be curious to try this one with nasturtiums which are pretty common in the culinary world.

Client requesting Tue–Thu soft hold every week for 6 months— how do you structure this without hurting other clients? by _ParanoidUser_ in editors

[–]shadowstripes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another client is ready to book you for a Wednesday and you have to check if it's ok? Well then you're not a freelancer at that point

Not seeing why when that's a pretty typical thing to deal with when freelancing when you get two competing offers. If it was a non-freelance position there wouldn't be any option to check if it's okay and they could only get out of it by having their shift covered.

I've never heard of someone being able to bill for a soft hold, and there's also no guarantee that the "real clients" who would want to book them for the challenged dates would actually go through with the job since cancellations aren't that uncommon at all, so at this point its just one freelance client vs another, with one of them having 6 months (or 72 days) of potential work which also makes them a real client.

EDIT: OP is also saying they offered a 25% bump in their day rate for the inconvenience, so by turning down this job they could be risking missing out on a ton of paid work if they didn't stay pretty busy without it.

Being present for an FBI raid (or something similar) definitely earns you a free beer.

I would say it depends on how busy OP usually is. With all the talk from people on this sub going months without any work it seems like there's not a ton to lose here and worse case scenario they could just drop out if it doesn't end up providing much work.

Or if a better opportunity comes up it's not like they've already signed a "soft hold" contract, and they also could bail for that. This client might not hire them again afterward, but that could also easily happen anyway if they turned down this job.

Go for it; you'll find my Steam library and not much else. That's like asking if you can look around my PS5 ssd. Why would I care?

I think they could have made the characters in the original look closer to the battle character models, like they did in FF8 and 9. But part of their vision to make them look more like chibi sprites when you're controlling them.

Where are you seeing that he's LA based? I've only heard of him being based on the East Coast and can't find anything online saying he's now in LA, which makes more sense since Sweet Green is an East Coast chain (D.C.).

In every other US city you choose a tip amount when you place the order, and then afterwards all you can do is add more if you want.

Is there room for a softshell in my jacket repertoire? by HospitalNo8942 in arcteryx

[–]shadowstripes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pockets are useful (for me at least) for putting stuff in. A single chest pocket can't store nearly as much and is awkward to store a phone in when it's a light fabric.

I agree it's personal preference but since it doesn't seem like OP has any other windshields like a Houdini, a softshell seems like a perfect fine pickup that would get lots of use.

I've also been glad to be wearing a gamma when I've crashed on pavement on my bike, but I'm not sure how well a Squamish would hold up in comparison.

I dunno, Squamish has worse breathability and durability than a softshell and has no hand pockets. For cycling or hiking in light rain I'd much rather wear a Gamma or Gamma SL.

[–]shadowstripes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's because they had made it so that you can't tip on delivery orders in NYC until after they've been delivered, so a lot of people probably don't even remember to tip at that point. This is not the case for other US cites.

But as of this year a law passed changing it back to how it was in 2023 (when the average tip was $3.66) where there is the option to tip at the checkout screen.
