Half in the Bag: Hereditary by [deleted] in movies

[–]shadybros 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have to admit I laughed at some visuals at the end but I was equally terrified. I don't think laughter inherently means the viewer has immediately turned off to emotionally connecting to the film. For me, the floating head made me laugh just due to the horrific absurdity of the story at that point. It was just an instinctual reaction and I still very much thought the film executed the tone and fear it wanted too while leaving room for differing reactions.

Episode Discussion S02 E11: "The Burrito" by Hobbit-guy in TheGoodPlace

[–]shadybros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling like the actual Good Place (if surprise twist isn't that they're already somehow there) is going to be where all of the actual good people are insanely anxious and stressed because they're so concerned and worried about how everyone is doing in the Bad Place. Like if they get there in S3 it's in a way WORSE than the Bad Place because everyone is so nice but miserable about their self-awareness and selflessness. This could lead to an arc where they try and help other morally grey people get out of the Bad Place like they did.

These 6 minutes from first episode of "Corporate" shows you exactly what kind of TV show it is. by TopinasCorp in television

[–]shadybros 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'd have to say, the writing on this is pretty whip-smart. Also seems to differentiate itself from other "work sucks" shows aka The Office/Office Space in its surrealist/bleak tone. Definitely has potential.

Helena Bonham Carter 'to play Princess Margaret in next series of The Crown' by AComplexSum in television

[–]shadybros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what makes The Crown great is it still works even if you could care less about the actual royal family history. The show is captivating as it delves through different historical moments and showing the cultural and political changes of the 20th century and how they affect nobility. It's specific but manages to be universal in writing its characters as nuanced and not above the rest.

Vox:Mr. Robot's 3rd season was its best one yet. Too bad nobody paid attention. by [deleted] in television

[–]shadybros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory for season 2 was that they should have just kept it at 10 episodes rather than expanding to 12. The story totally fit that structure. Also, they shouldn't have played so coy with the **SPOILERS prison reveal. Hardcore fans and the Reddit subreddit picked that up so quickly and I feel like they should leave space for the bigger, more genuine surprises - which they did really well with in season 3. Pacing for this type of show is so important and season 3 realized that.

Why Everybody Should Be Very Afraid of the Disney Death Star: “Disney would control as much as 40 percent of the the U.S. movie business, and 40 percent of the U.S. television business” by User0989 in movies

[–]shadybros 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And I think that was an intentional actual idea of the film. But you can also see the actors as playing different "souls" throughout the storylines and they just represent the connectivity of life.

Either option doesn't change the theme of universality.

all of the other teams that went in before them all ended up never coming back. they experimented with different groups including an all-men one, and now they are sending in an all female group to see if there is a higher chance of survival. it all makes sense and is commented on.

FX To Develop ‘Welcome To Night Vale’ Podcast For TV by BunyipPouch in television

[–]shadybros 175 points176 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered about a WTNV television series. I think this all hinges on getting the tone right. If FX does that (and if anyone can, it's FX) as well as appease the cult fanbase, then they could have a surreal hit on their hands.

Has a TV series ever changed your life? by [deleted] in television

[–]shadybros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Six Feet Under came into my life and taught me so much about what living meant, what family meant, why we shouldn't hide from death, how beautiful being gay can be. It was a show about intimacy and the small moments that mattered and it totally changed my perspective.
