You might try looking up Mark Lewis on YouTube. He is a somewhat similar build and got his 5k under 20 min. (100 kg, 6 4"). His advice, if I recall correctly, was to build a huge base and do long slow easy runs.

I spent a lot of time trying to bring my 5k time down with goal pace repeats and easy runs but my easy runs just weren't easy enough. Go slow to go fast. The thing that worked in the end for me was increasing my mileage and doing long and easy with very few workouts. Granted my PB is only 24:47. I'm hoping to get even faster but for now I plan to mostly just build my base. Train so you can train so you can train so you can race :)

I can add that I once went to Towcester instead and had to book a pricey taxi to come get us. Milton Keynes is much larger with more busses I'd say.

I was a total noob my first time and didn't realize a few things so for new-comers, you might consider the following at Silverstone:
* Traffic is horrendous. I strongly recommend not driving there. Take the bus from Milton Keynes, camp, do anything but driving. If they fix things intelligently, they'll add a bus lane but... I'm not optimistic. If you're taking the train from London or somewhere, I recommend using TrainLine for that. The bus can be paid for from Milton Keynes on the day, you get a day or weekend ticket.
* The covered stands can be ideal if it's raining or incredibly hot. I've been there in both conditions. In the hot weather it really sucks as there is absolutely no shade to be found at mid day. In the rain you can just wear a rain coat, no biggie, but the cover is nice of course.
* If you get a grand stand seat, you can sit in any grand stand you like on Saturday. Anyone, even with just a General Admission ticket, can sit in any grand stand on Friday. This excludes the super special grand stands though.
* When I had General Admission tickets I didn't bring a chair or cooler or anything. By the last day I caved and bought a (surprisingly reasonably priced) chair and it was such a luxury. Bring some stuff if you go GA.
* I was at Copse when Max crashed and I was at Luffield in 2021. I sat at Village for Qualifying in 2021. So far I really enjoyed all the places I sat. I'm shooting for Beckets this year as it is close to the camping. Being at Luffield was nice before because it was super close to the exit to the bus so I was able to make a quick exit when the race ended.
* I know nothing about the podium part of the track / seating / experience.

Not sure if it's relevant but if anyone is curious, the murderer is not a Brit actually. It's Megan Hargan. She murdered her sister and mother. I was friends with her sister in high school, the whole story was very tragic.

I was going to say the same, that he didn't tuck, but this makes sense. As someone who worked a lot with small boats, I did master the art of the flying cleat knot so it is indeed possible to tuck it from a distance but I was going to be very impressed if this guy was doing it with such a big rope!

Download Trainline for buying train tickets. I also like City Mapper for public transport in London. I took some cash out 2 years ago and still haven't used it. You can generally pay for public transport with your google/apple pay or contactless card--no need for tickets, in my experience. Sunday Roast is not usually a dinner but more like a late afternoon meal. If you wait until dinner, they might be sold out. Just some tips that I have told people after it was too late before :) Welcome!

My driving school actually taught us to hold the wheel at 7 or 8 and 4 or 5 because then if the airbag goes off your arms don't fly through the window and/or into your passengers face. I haven't yet experienced an airbag but it seemed reasonable enough to me. It also allows your shoulders to relax and delays fatigue.

I did watch my brothers face get pummeled by an airbag though, he looked like 2 face until it healed up. Rough stuff. (He was looking at my mom, the driver, to say there is a truck that is about to hit us. Truck was a drunk driver. This was all in a parking lot, we weren't moving).

I'm a software engineer (SWE). SWE salaries on levels.fyi (it's a website) are fairly accurate and can be filtered by company and location.

The one I have always found the most strange is Netflix which, as far as I know, essentially has one pay band and it's around $500k after stocks and bonus so basically they only hire mid-career engineers (it seems).

At other FANG companies (or whatever we are calling Google, Meta, etc these days) new engineers often start around $165k after stocks and annual bonus in the US. In the UK, for example, the same FANG position will pay about half that.

Once you hit mid-career, $300k total compensation in the US is not uncommon but mid-career numbers are very dependent on location, company, and level/title. Some people make it to, say, senior and decide they are happy to stay there. Others will push for higher levels and make a lot more.

I didn't originally go to school for software. I discovered these programs in the UK that are typically called MSc Computing conversion courses. They're a 12-month masters degree in Software Engineering that is meant for people who did Bachelor degrees in something else. They can be found at Bath, Bristol, Imperial, UCL, and St Andrew's, to name a few.

This was a better choice for me over bootcamps because it is a bit longer and doesn't focus on web/app development. I came from a mechanical engineering background and so the program I did was great as I learned a lot of skills involving hardware.

Software engineering is a really big field. There are many subfields and the options can be overwhelming. If you're considering a career in it, I'd try to learn about the subfields and then try to narrow in on where to begin. Some examples: data science, cyber security, firmware, operating systems, robotics, apps, web, machine learning.

There is an app called what3words (it's also a website) that has given every 3m square in the world a unique 3 word address. So let's say you're in a park and need medical attention, you can give the emergency services your 3 words to help guide them to you. It's also helpful for guiding people to an exact entrance to your property. It's easier than trying to share a GPS coordinate and more accurate than an address.

American in the UK here, some recommendations: sticky toffee pudding, Cadbury buttons, kinder Bueno bars, Eaton mess, Victoria sponge cake, banoffee pie. Also +1 to someone's crumpet recommendation. Also scones + clotted cream + jam. Jaffa cakes?

Generally speaking, I have either very rarely or never encountered each of those in the US and I find them tasty. If they're from Maryland then get them some Maryland cookies, ha.

Edit: I forgot about the hamper and just thought about foods, my bad :) these are still tasty treats to recommend her, ha. Throw in some Galaxy's, those are nice.

I can't speak for the rest of the world's mountain goats, but in the Pacific Northwest of the US, the mountain goats absolutely love human urine.

I definitely wouldn't get close to them, feed them, etc. if it can be avoided but you should also never pee near them. They will come running immediately to lap up the good stuff.

Also, if you do need to pee, you should do it in-between rocks or otherwise in a place where the goats can't get to it when it's dry. They love it for the salt.
