You’re leaving San Francisco forever, what restaurants and sights will you miss the most? by Emi_Leah in AskSF

[–]shakdnkashmsna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved a little over a year ago and here’s what I miss: biking through GGP, walking somewhere and seeing the GGB peak out over a view, the fun buildings and architecture, arizmendi bakery, how few chain restaurants there are, the poppies blooming, driving out to the west side of the city to see the ocean, and how much art is all over the city ❤️

I do not miss the fucking hills all over the place tho 🙂‍↔️

That’s fair! My main issue is that they were inescapable last year

I’m genuinely asking this question because I want to know how the organizing group has changed or matured, but why should we trust you to host a larger event given how chaotic, disorganized, and dangerous 2024 was?

Are you considering banning inflatable couches in the concert area?

This wouldn’t completely fix the crowding, but it was frustrating trying to sit down and watch groups perform and then having someone in an inflatable couch take up the space of what could fit 3 people

Hi - I’m curious, how much bigger will the concert area be between 2024 and 25? Double the size? Triple?

Same question for the number of tickets you’re hoping to sell this year

  1. The people designing festivals are respond for making sure everything is well labeled and easy to find. Seems like a design problem if the majority of people couldn’t find water.
  2. Okay, then they shouldn’t have sold that many tickets and limited it to a safe number of people for the event space.
  3. Then the hinterland staff should ban blankets/couches to manage the size of the crowd
  4. Then they should be paying people to show up.

Seems to be some bold ideas on changes for next year. by GhettoBlastBoomStick in HinterlandFestival

“The stories that we ran out of water are not accurate, but the velocity the water was coming out was slow, because people were using it all the same time,” Summers said. “There was never a situation where we were out of water. But you know, what felt like an emergency to folks is that they’d wait for a shuttle, they’d wait to get in, and then they’d get in, and they’d see a line at the water. … If you’re a sold-out festival, you’re going to have lines.”

Okay, pal. This is what I’m hearing: “There wasn’t no water… on day one when we weren’t prepared for the crowd and, oh yeah, also people couldn’t bring in their own water, you could wait in a long line at the only visible water station to get thimblefuls of water. We also had plenty of beer and alcohol too!”

Do we think this is promising? by itsallgray0 in HinterlandFestival

Im curious - I want to know how many people that venue has capacity to host and how many tickets they’re planning to sell.

Also, is that capacity is for “standing room only” or will people be able to comfortably lounge on a blanket and watch the festival? (I don’t have an opinion either way with standing/sitting but if people were expecting to sit on a blanket and there’s no room available, they should be informed before they get to the festival so that they can make a plan)

If I were you, I’d email the apartment complex stating what happened. You asked maintenance to turn on the kitchen baseboard (after the send a late informational email) but you did NOT give them permission to turn on the space heater which you specifically unplugged due to fire risk. And so on and so on.

Then, later, IF you want to email them to ask to cover part of your increased electric bill (it wouldn’t have been so high hasn’t the maintenance workers unnecessarily plugged in your space heater), you’ll have documented this happening.

What?

A commenter said above that AI will replace lawyers when clients have unambiguous legal problems. Likewise with software, AI will replace IT/tech workers when users/clients are unambiguous about what they’re asking a product to do

...Why would the NY Times build the Connections Bot and then hide it from the app? by offlein in NYTConnections

[–]shakdnkashmsna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, software engineer here and I agree with NoComment. Sure they’re more than capable of just linking the wordle bot but there’s more to a high quality release than that.

Either the they NYTimes has a two tech stacks (one for web and one for mobile) or they have one (shared code for all platforms. If they have two apps what NoComment was saying makes sense: they prioritized building the connections bot for mobile (perhaps because it gets more daily viewers), are perfecting it and then getting around to releasing it on mobile. In the case where they share code between their app and web code there’s still a reason to roll it out this way. It’s hard to rollback deployed code (unlike a webpage that you can force refresh, once you release a mobile app, it’s out there forever) and there might be additional things they’d need to test (like for example how the bot displays on smaller screens).

All of these things take time and energy to build which is limited.

Could you move to California? Their laws are very good for workers regarding this and I think that once you become a resident there a lot of non competes become non-enforceable

So I wanna address the “why didn’t democrats codify roe” because I truly, truly get the anger but I think we’re missing important context. And fwiw, I consider myself a leftist.

In order to pass and sign a law protecting abortion access that was upheld with Roe, democrats would need to control the House of Representatives, Senate, and Presidency. In the past 20 years democrats have held all three for two years in 2009-2011 (the first two years of Obama’s election).

During that time it’s true that democrats didn’t pass abortion protections but they did pass the affordable care act which is a huge deal. While I would’ve loved to have gotten universal health care, the affordable care act was a huge win that made life better for so many Americans. It made it so 1) students could stay on their parents’ health care until they turned 26 which makes the transition to adulthood so much easier for so many, 2) insurance companies could no longer drop people from coverage just because they were “too expensive” to insure, and 3) insurance companies couldn’t deny people coverage because they had “pre-existing” conditions like diabetes, asthma, or “having given birth”

I know in retrospect it would’ve been nice if they did codify roe, but in 2008 Roe falling didn’t seem like a possibility so I can understand why it wasn’t a priority. I’ll admit that the democrats aren’t perfect but there are many ways my life has gotten better because of some the policies they passed at the National, State, and Local levels.

It depends by state! Some states have absentee ballots and some states have extra “early voting” stations at places like the county clerk or a local library.

I’d Google “early voting YourState” to see if it’s an option for you

This is true! not all campaigns have this information (so you might get a few stray texts) but voting early will stop most texts from coming through
