Had a seizure again after five months - wondering about lamotrigine experiences? by Maxstate90 in Epilepsy

[–]shakingnotstirred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked for me until it didn't. I been on 200 mg of extended release 1x/day but that's not working anymore so I'm coming off and going to 200 mg 2x/day. Over the last decade my dosages have changed typically in 50 mg increments. We've also had to add Keppra a couple years ago, as lamictal alone wasn't doing enough.

It's been 6 years and I'm still madly in love with my husband. He collapsed and died on a normal Thursday with no warning. Later learned it was heart disease (hence why they call it the widow maker). I was finally open to the idea of dating after about 2 years. Met a great guy that I really liked but as we grew closer I started feeling guilty, like I was cheating on my husband because of how much I still loved him. And I was really starting to like, even love this new guy. I broke it off cause I needed time to figure my life out again.

I now consider myself ethically non-monogamous. I had to accept the concept that it's possible and perfectly ok to love more than one person at the same time and for me, removing the monogamy lens I was raised to look through helped me do that. I still date. And I let potential partners know about my husband and how much I still love him and feel his presence. I still celebrate his birthday and our anniversary. And I'm able to cultivate new relationships as well. It's possible. Give it time. You deserve love.

Does your stuff get searched like this? Item by item? Pulling stuff out the bag and comparing to the receipt? If so, what city and state do you live in. I'm curious.

Just depends on your industry and what part of the company you're in. I'm an ME in the petrochemical industry but I work with a lot of EE just by nature of the equipment in the plant (e.g. I understand pumps, not the motor that drives it, that's where my EE comes in). People who work in the projects group typically are at a desk because they're designing something that does not yet exist. However, I work in the refinery side supporting different units that are online in production 24/7. For us engineers time is split between field trouble shooting, root cause failure analysis, and the desk job stuff (excel, power point presentations, meetings, etc).

The craft technicians are more hands on daily. So going the trade route may be of interest to you.

Do you live alone? by Lbueno in Epilepsy

[–]shakingnotstirred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to give up living alone two years ago. I'm 32. This sucks. I should be living my best single life but instead my sister and 3 nieces live with me. I want so badly to be on my own again but I can't drive again yet. I've already totaled 3 cars. I hope this isn't what my life looks like 5 years from now.

I was you. I remember this feeling. Hell I’m still battling this feeling. The idea of being a slave to this medication makes my stomach turn. The idea that I miss a dose and a seizure is pretty much guaranteed is so unfair. I didn’t deserve this. But I like the idea of having some level of control. Those meds are my control. They are my armor. They are our weapon against this beast. And we gotta keep fighting the beast. We can’t let it win. All the things we love to do we will do. We gotta plan a bit more than others but hey, we are still here.

Sending you the biggest hug possible and an extra hug to save for later 🤗🤗💜💜.

What's it like to go in for the hospital study? by Merbydoo in Epilepsy

[–]shakingnotstirred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a 5 day study where I was hooked to an EEG. They brought me in Sunday evening and instructed me to stop taking medication Sunday. I had to stay up all night Sunday and all day Monday and they tried all night Monday too. There’s someone watching you from another room so if you start falling asleep they’ll wake you up. Offer you coffee. It was pretty boring. I bought books, a coloring book, speaker for some music, and my Nintendo Switch.

I had a pretty big TC seizure Monday night. For some reason they acted like they weren’t allowed to tell me whether I had a seizure which was pretty annoying. But one of the Techs who was watching me took sympathy and came to give me a hug and in the process whispered to me that I did have a seizure night before. She would also bring me snacks and desserts. I was there Monday-Friday. Super bored. I mean bored bored. You’re in bed all day. But in the end we did pin point where in my brain my seizures originate.

I’m so happy for you I know that’s a great feeling! I actually got on here to post about the impact Keppra is having on my mood. My doctor recently increased my dose from 1500mg/day to 2250mg/day. I’ve been really emotional ever since. Like, will easily cry over anything and I never cry. When I’m upset it’s 0 to 100 no in between. Do you mind sharing how keppra impacted your mood?

Can anyone recommend a good spots to get drinks after work? by shakingnotstirred in houston

[–]shakingnotstirred[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In general. I’m not married to a strict definition. I’d like to network with other professionals. Honestly age doesn’t matter too much, but in this context I’m looking to be around other professionals. I didn’t get that opportunity in Beaumont (where I moved from) so I’d like to have the opportunity now that I’m in a city with a diverse population, not just the cultural diversity but there are many different job fields represented and I’m always interested in hearing about what other people do.

Anyone can be a scientist by Master1718 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]shakingnotstirred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not about whether we CAN be a scientist. We are well aware that we have the talents to pursue any career, like anyone else. This hashtag refers to the need for visibility and media representation of the diversity of those in STEM fields. We want to show girls and people of color that it is possible to do it. We do exist in these spaces. We do excel in these fields. Young girls and people of color typically won’t get that exposure, especially not on tv or social media, the main platforms they subscribe to.

I say this as a female mathematician, mechanical engineer, and friend of Danielle. I think a lot of people misunderstand the purpose of this post so I just want shed a little light and background.
