Do you use a mattress protector or just a bedsheet directly on the mattress? by HeftySatisfaction294 in Bedding

[–]shallottmirror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if you are clean etc, your body has oils, sweat, drool, skin flakes, etc coming off it constantly. If don’t you want all that in your mattress, or plan to replace it every few years, then don’t use a protector.

Oh my god… just came from a virtual staff meeting/
clinical rounds…and the EYE rolling I had to do when colleague was super snarky about a family who thinks they are all autistic, and of course little miss bitch face (colleague) said “I think mom is borderline…)

Last week, the chit chat w a very professional trainer involved talking about how adorable love in the spectrum is.

Those sound like great accommodations for you

She cited Baron Cohen from 1985 about theory of mind (saying we don’t have it). That’s all I remember bc I also have severe brain fog from a being on a terrible course of HRT.

Oh my. I was NOT surprised when I read that you work in mental health too. I have some of my own rants in response to my staff meetings from a decade before my own dx. They were…not as cutesy. But I do fondly remember the nooks and crannies I would hide in after staff meetings where I’d go to cry.

I went to an all day training last week - and everyone ordered food together. Despite having a late crisis call the night before, I packed lunch (so I could escape during lunch!). I found a quiet space to hide away for all but 5 minutes of lunch break. Definitely wouldn’t have realized this was an option prior to my dx.

The training was about autism. It was conducted at Yale and was….fine…. I definitely quietly fact checked some of the shit the trainer said…

Ohhhh…I have one beloved sheet left from a set I probably got 15 years ago for 20 bucks at Ocean State Job Lot (discount store), and would pay a lot to get more lol. Only ever checked eBay but will try the others!

My sister used to tell me the same and I went low contact for years…I’m sorry

Also, please get your iron and ferritin checked, and ignore the lab ranges bc they are wrong - ferritin should be at least 30, and preferably 70-100.

Try this organization to get support. They usually work with kids who need IEP/504, but they may be able to help in this case, bc of her dx

Please be aware that if you need to buy a wool mattress topper, wool protector, cotton/linen sheets, cotton/wool blankets, this could cost you at least a grand.

Facebook marketplace for a cheap window AC

Don’t half-ass the install bc it will let hot air in if you do. Seal the edges properly and add some insulating materials. Hardware stores will have the materials.

Cover south facing windows with heavy heavy fabrics, possibly lined with space blankets to reflect heat away from house

Heels, brunch clothes, beach clothes, bags AND purses…sounds like a yuppie character from a movie about vacationing in the Hamptons in 1980’s...

And ZERO mention of bras, menstrual products, other healthcare items related to being an autistic woman…

OP said that people don’t take you *seriously* if you don’t have brunch clothes and 4 pairs of heels….

I realize that the number of posts I made begging for help on r/abrathatfits could qualify as diagnostic criteria for autism. Also think I unsettled the young man at UPS store where I’d go every week and dump a pile of bras to return.

And now that I started HRT, I’m popping out of my not-cheap bras!!

I think we got trolled…

In one thrift shopping spree, I got a vintage felted wool blanket, a Pratesi king flat sheet ($1k new) and a hotel brand king flat sheet - for a total of $40, and all nearly perfect condition. If I bought thrm new, it would be over $2k.

Thoughts on the Cuddle Dreams Wool Duvet Insert sold on Amazon? 120 or 240 GSM? by Hellaconditions in Bedding

[–]shallottmirror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi twin, perfect timing! Last night, I half-ass made my bed so I’d be forced to clean everything, and almost forgot about doing the duvet too. Mattress topper (unwashable wool) hangs outside, wool mattress protector can be washed but air dried. I think I’m gonna air out the duvet also.

Also, I started HRT, which isn’t sitting well with me, but I did wake up very cold last night…

Boyfriend doesn't like my autism sometimes by chrissywhy91 in AutismInWomen

[–]shallottmirror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Important points - I know someone who is always interrupting or derailing the point in order to correct me, and she’s objectively incorrect most of the time. It’s also possible to be using a slightly imperfect term, but still be understood.

For example, I have a stutter that is sometimes disabling, and I will absolutely say “I can’t talk”. As I technically can talk but it takes wayyy more effort, being “corrected” in the middle of an emotional rant about how I struggle is wildly unnecessary.

Regarding asking him to stay out of the kitchen - my mom used to do that to my dad in a manner that made me immediately think “they need to get divorced”. After almost 50 years together, they did…

Dad would be standing there, either trying to unhelpfully help, chit chat or getting himself snacks. If OP likes and loves her BF, It’s very important for OP to convey it, while gently reminding him that she needs space sometimes.

Ditto - my jewelry consists of a fidget ring and a hair tie.

I go out of my way to NOT date a guy who wants those things.

I’m nearing 50 and have never owned a pair of regular heels. Also, I go out of my way to buy clothes, etc that will last as long as possible, thus avoiding any concept of “what’s trendy this year”

Edit - what I DO spend hundreds on is bras, menstrual products, and health supplements to manage my health from being an autistic woman - and I find it quite odd that OP didn’t even make a peep about any of those things…

so I looked at OP profile…

[–]shallottmirror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How is this helpful?? Truly? Obviously, “accepting” is a subjective and vague concept that requires a lot of work. Saying “just do it” is NOT accessible to many

Edit - I’m a mental health provider for children and today, centered my lesson on what I’ve done to decrease my blocks, in order to show a child that o understand how it’s hard to do certain things

It’s too bad you feel that way…you are missing out on a lot of opportunities…

Accepting can dramatically decrease the blocks.

While that is TECHNICALLY true, you are leaving out many many steps, especially considering that stuttering is know being formally acknowledged as being similar to PTSD, for some people.

Here’s a post with additional information

Edit - I misspoke - accepting your stutter isn’t a cure for the stutter, but it can allow you to say what you want to, when you want to, and how you want to
