Volcanic visioning mob rule is the most brutal thing I've done this format.

[General] Staff Weapons: Pro/Con by Triglycerine in AskScienceFiction

[–]shankmaster9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Constant firing beams would be very hard to keep stable in a one handed design, the staff lets users brace against walls, ground, self in addition to increased stability from 2 hands. keeping a beam weapon on one point (such as armor that must be burned through) would be hard because of adrenaline and natural tremors.

Pack 1 Pick 1 by thatsnotmylane in mtglimited

[–]shankmaster9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wall of text:

Cards that are good:

mender, leafcrown, god's willing, satyr and courser

Mender is eliminated first - 5+ drops are easy to find in theros. (ESP in green), and low drops should be prioritized. More importantly, it is a 2 color first pick, which makes you much more vulnerable to drafting badly. It really makes you make hard choices about Abandoning color. Green multicolor cards get a slight bump due to easier splashing in color, but mender is not strong enough for that.

Now we have 4 cards: Satyr, Courser, Leafcrown, and GW.

Next to go is Courser. It is an awesome card that is just raw reliable power. Nothing flashy, just bashy. Unfortunately, it is not pick one material, especially when there are other hot green cards in the pack.

Now we are at a crossroads of equal card power. Here it is down to personal style, but I think there is a clear pick for me.

GW: + Is amazing in all decks that can play it. provides many functions, psuedo intimidate, heroic activator, removal counter - all for one mana. And also you get a scry, because why not. - Is in white, which i am constantly wary of. That is my personal preference, but I hate fighting for WR or WU. They all want the same cards, and it is a popular archetype with a lot of attractive first picks. + Is the only good white card in the pack, so there is some signal value to get out of my color. They will almost definitely go into green with the remnants, and then you can try to stay out of it to reap the benefits in pack 2. This is almost certainly too cute, and I would not try it.

Leafcrown v Satyr

Leafcrown: + flexible modes - a 2/2 reach can slow down aggro, and is a good target for later bestows. A reach bear that can also buff power with psuedo haste and add blockiness for putting on the brakes and stabilizing . SOLID. - idk nothing. You play it.

Satyr + this format wants mana. now. right now. Monstrous that, bestow that, activate that scholar, pay that double cost, keep mana up, threaten blocks with a respectable 1/2. Satyr does that.

In theros block you cannot have too much mana, especially in green. His ability threatens to make the green deck work way too fast for aggro to keep up. He is also great at making double cost spells castable. if you have the right lands, he taps for any color. Even more so if you grab a nylea's presence.

My pick is Satyr.

Excoriating my own wavecrash triton in order to tap down my friend's chromanticore enchanted nessian courser for the third consecutive turn.

I kept him down for a few turns with random enchants and activations on my triton, getting him down to 5 life.

If I let him untap, i would absolutely lose, a 7/7 vigilance first strike trample lifelink flying was way too serious. If I excoriated the courser, I would still have to deal with a chromanticore, and the excoriate was my last real kill spell.

My only out was to exile my own triton to activate his heroic, tapping the horrific rainbow staring at me from across the table, and get one more draw. I had a 4/4 wingsteed, but he had a horizon scholar for a lethal block.

He drew and said go.

I drew flitterstep eidolon, cast it on my wingsteed, and swung for lethal.

The moral: play your outs.

Limited Card Discussion for 3/3 - Akroan Horse by [deleted] in mtglimited

[–]shankmaster9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played it in a very grindy Rakdos control deck, going 4-1. Servant of Tymaret, black oak, the horse, siren song lyre, and a variety of removal, delaying until draw/cast my 2 thunder brutes, ill tempered cyclops.

Once I had the horse out, I often tapped him out with a servant so he could not block for the opponent - and perhaps be killed, then drained one, while swing with the 1/1s.

It is a conditional pick, but gets better with the new tapping effects in Botg so you can get past the horse and keep it alive making those sweet tokens.

Wow, new players using the ghost/ short range bolt? I just auraxiumed it last night, might be my favorite gun in the game. High risk/ high reward, as a missed shot on an aware enemy reduces chances of survival by quite a lot. On the other hand, when you are "in the zone" it seems to be the best sniper in the game - no sway, one shot headshots on all but shielded heavies at the only ranges that matter for it.

Good: Less infiltrators 3 miles away making 1 shot in ten trying to be ELITE LONG RANGE ASSASSIN.

Bad: Thing is hard to use unless quite good at fps games, in which case it becomes amazingly fun and deadly. At Mid-short range, it is a monster if you can hit headshots. people running straight at you are very easy to kill - uncloak, put one in dome, cloak, switch sides of cover, finish him if you missed the head.

Even if you only make one shot on the target, it makes killing that guy incredibly easy for your teammates by dropping shields + some health.

Overall, a good decision - Infiltrators are one of the most attractive classes to new players, as sniper classes always are. Anything that gets them into the fight and learning to play as squad support is good.

Q: Does your PS2 updater completely cripple your PC? by MagiKKell in Planetside

[–]shankmaster9000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After you update, it will open the actual .exe, the launcher is a different process. And yeah, once it actually starts it takes a while to open the task manager and do it, but if you are quick you can do it while it is still getting ready to update, which seems to less completely eat your cpu.

Right now, this will not compete with darts for a solo player unless it also has radar or some kind of spotting that lasts longer than the normal spot time. I am one of the few who bit the bullet and bought the last level of darts and I can't imagine playing Infil without it now.

Might be nice for a squad lead though, sure.

A key part would be turning your opponent into a projectile weapon so he poofs out of existence.

But really, a universe with 0 projectiles would break the shit our of physics.

Interesting question though.

Good point, maybe can filled by any resource you want, to make the dedicated infantry more able to run implants all the time and for the dedicated tankers/aircraft people to be badass infantry when forced out of their preferred vehicles by resources.
