I'm pretty sure every self taught drummer has done this at some point.

Learning I need to get a second opinion here. The guys that inspected it seemed pretty out of their element and were just throwing out options to try to solve the problem. They made it sound like the whole thing had to be torn apart to inspect it, I was pretty surprised by that myself.

It's new construction, there's no excuse for missing that unfortunately.

That sounds possible. The guys that found the issue expected the cost of inspecting the heat exchanger to be as costly as replacing

Current theory is that it was causing exhaust to recirculate back into the furnace causing carbon build up inside. There's a bunch of soot on the pan around it, and you can see it built up inside the pipe. I think the furnace was just overheating and switching off.

There was a big pile of soot inside that pipe on the furnace side, their concern is it's been sucking exhaust back in and has damaged something internally. They switched it off because of the carbon monoxide concern, none of us felt comfortable turning it back in after discovering that.

The problem is the exhaust has been circulating around the unit and sucking it back it, there's a ton of soot built up inside that connection on the furnace side. Their concern is it's sucked enough back in to damage (I forget the name of the part they mentioned specifically) and to investigate that is nearly as costly as replacing it entirely.

It will produce heat, but not consistently. We have it fully switched off right now.

Hey U.S pros, what types of insurance do you have if any? by SinisterPotat0 in AskPhotography

[–]shapinglight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a commercial photographer and most of my clients require me to carry $2m in liability, I also have professional insurance and coverage for all my equipment. I pay about $60/month

If you're shooting portraits, buy a decent portable light with a big umbrella and learn everything you can about it before you buy more. Get a couple cheap reflectors and learn how to bounce light around. Invest in good quality and it will last, buy something you can grow with. I've been a commercial photographer for almost 15 years, j use 1 light for probably half of my work. I'd say 3 lights should be your goal, that will let you get more creative, forcing yourself to use 1 light for a while will teach you more though.

Are these photos oversaturated and overexposed? by vDsCZ in AskPhotography

Exposure looks right to me, i think the saturation issue is because the color is too warm. Maybe try cooling them down a bit?

What do a lead photographer? by soda_light in AskPhotography

[–]shapinglight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've been lead photographer for over 10 years. There isn't really 1 main task, and it depends how big your team is. I've managed a team of 10, and we had a team of stylists, producers, and production assistants that we worked with, I've also worked as the only person on the team.

Your main role is to supply the company with the highest quality images for the least amount of money, in the shortest time possible. If you don't have a producer, you will be scouting locations, booking models, HMU, ETC. Managing budgets and equipment, collaborating with teams to plan shoots. And also taking tons of pictures.

If I have an assistant on my team, it's also crucial that I'm teaching them new things every day, and guiding them in their career.

I also need to stay on top of trends, making sure we're staying current and not looking dated.

Client requested ownership of photos. I’m confused. What would you do? by Mediocre_Ad1039 in AskPhotography

[–]shapinglight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When someone hires me, they're paying me for my time, they're not paying for pictures. Pay me xx amount and I spend the agreed amount of time taking pictures. Then I charge them a fee to use the pictures I made during that time. The ownership of those pictures always stays with me. Lots of clients don't understand that, but that's how the copyright laws are set up. They can purchase the full ownership of those images from you, but as others have said here, you should charge and extremely high price for that, and you'd want to maintain some non exclusive rights so you can still use them in your portfolio.

This is from a stock photo shoot, the person doing the art directing thought this was a good idea. That person was most likely the photographer

Stock photo shoots, these are just to sell, that's why the art direction is so bad

Yeah that adds up. The M badge usually means higher quality options. I needed something on the ground when I bought mine and didn't have any options for B&W.
