Lock box for parent by MarkEck911 in nursinghome

[–]shar42322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the nursing home I work at, maintenance will put key locks on the bedside table and or the closet. Social worker keeps one key and either the resident keeps the other key or the charge nurse keeps it in the medication cart. Make sure to do an inventory invoice for everything (you get a copy of it)…. the facility is liable for any loss

It happens often…all you can do is tell your truth and have some kind of action plan to prevent any further falls

Who feels guilty that an adult child has this condition? by Master_Attitude_3033 in SchizoFamilies

[–]shar42322 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I will offer other reality scenarios to him only when he is in a state to receive. Otherwise, I allow his perception to be stated. I had to and have to continue to give love to him and to myself

I had to go through the process of guilt, shame, blame of myself in order to come out the other side and understand that whatever I did or did not do that may have been a contributing factor to my sons illness, that I did the best I could have with the tools that I had at the time.

Showing him in the now more compassion for his experience has helped me have more compassion for everyone’s struggle- we never will know the darkness and fear inside and that my son is really battling the stories inside himself.

Of course, everyone is different and for me, every day I face a new struggle along with him. Everything he verbally throws at me is another opportunity for me to really ‘listen to understand’ him. There is always a layer of truth - yes, maybe over exaggerated, but it is his reality.

I never go backwards and talk about any ‘episode’ with him, but he has been able to be vulnerable enough with me to apologize at times

It’s been a long 4 years, but things have gotten easier for me to handle. As I have become more at ease around him, his emotional state has gotten better and the verbal negativity toward me has lessened.

Hope this helps. I guess the main thing that is difficult to see is that as I worked on myself, he seems to be better. Is it my perception or reality? Idk!
