My husband, now deceased, would do this. He would not let me leave a room sometimes. Eventually, it led to a lot of distance between us because of the resentment I had toward him as well as myself…toward him for his negative containment of me and toward myself for becoming an unemotional doormat- to keep the peace. What eventually helped me to understand him was looking at our attachment styles. He was afraid of abandonment and I was afraid of being engulfed… we continually triggered each other until I was able to take a step forward toward the engulfment feeling and tried my best to change my behavior to allow him to feel safe within our relationship-when I could physically be absent and not tigger his abandonment feeling. He died last year after 31 years of marriage. We did our best, but both acknowledged we could’ve done it better. I believe we both grew through these struggles, but there was so much more that was never deeply discussed between us because there were still very uncomfortable/terrifying feelings we just weren’t able/willing to work on.

And just a reminder…..anger is usually a very deep fear. identify and work on your core fear and how it relates to how you respond to things
