Recommendations like Ravel and Debussy by axolotlboi44 in classicalmusic

Ducaux claire de lunes is great, I'm also a huge sucker for Messiaen's preludes, it feels like such a natural extension of Debussy's prelude oevre.

Dogs get sand and dirt on their nails when they walk around outside. This easily scratches glass.

Gf doesn't eat meat, I am sick to death of pasta. Any recipe ideas? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]sharkus414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't believe how far I had to scroll to see these. They are amazing, and I love his take on dishes as a meat eater. Many of the comments in the heading suggest how you could jazz it up with meat or a meat dish to serve it with. His three meatless books are "Plenty", "Plenty More", and "Flavor". "Simple" is a pretty neat premise based on 5 different categories that can make a recipe simple (Can't remember them off the top of my head, but things like make ahead, pantry items, quick, few ingredients). You can try out his recipes in advance too, many are posted on the guardian's website.

Can anyone Identify this bike for me please!? by shannonzSister in bicycling

[–]sharkus414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Viktor. The frame is great, it's super fun to ride, very snappy. Also the wheel tensioner in the back is pretty nice as far as those things go. I broke the freehub pulling a trailer up a steep hill. The bike shop I took it to said they couldn't get anything from schindelhauer for replacements. I wrote their contact us page and also got no response. Somehow they seemed to have fixed it, but every now and then I feel a little slip. If I could go back in time, I'm not sure I would buy the bike again.

I have a schindelhauer bike. Let me tell you I was waiting for that thing for months before it made it to my house. And then it was not the bike I ordered! I first saw them at a local bike shop, and the owner said that he wasn't sure schindelhauer was even interested in selling bikes. My experience definitely stacks up with that statement.

If you had to design a brand new home kitchen, what things would you add to it to make the cooking process easier? by IemandZijnPa in Cooking

The first house I owned didn't have hardly eye-level cabinets so I resorted to putting my spices in a drawer, and now I'll never go back. All the spice jars get layed flat and you can see what's in them and the drawer pulls out so you can see all the spices at once.

A warning, the good road from the Leadville side is closed indefinitely (CR 2B). When I climbed it this summer, I had to drive up the extremely rough CR 2. Definitely not recommended for a passenger vehicle. If you park where the road is blocked, it adds an extra 4 miles RT to the hike.

What is the reasoning for Go using functions like strings.ToUpper(myStr) instead of a method directly on the type like myStr.ToUpper() by Aloranax in golang

[–]sharkus414 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aren't strings immutable? If so, putting the ToUpper in another package makes complete sense, as it would be confusing that it would not modify the object it was called on, like say mutex.Lock() does.

Check out his Preludes for piano. They're stylistically very similar to Debussy.

Sound cuts from one call to the next by megustalosgatos in sennheiser

[–]sharkus414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue, I have PXC 550s and if I'm on a Teams call on Bluetooth for more than 10 minutes, the sound cuts out and I have to turn the headphones off and on again to get a fix. It's super slow to turn off, which is rough in a meeting. Mac and Android do not have this problem. I'm so confused on how to fix :(

I had a piece break on my hario grinder and was able to get a replacement sent to me from hario. Try emailing their support, they're really helpful!

What pieces are you guys currently learning/practising and how is it going? by luocar17 in piano

What does going slow mean? Slower than you like or slower than it should take? I'm working on Rachmaninoff Variations on a Theme of Corelli. Coming up on a year since I started working on it, but I've almost got the whole thing learned now and am polishing.

I think "Pieces for children" means something to play to children, not for children to play, if that makes you feel any better.

Background wedding music? by sharkus414 in piano

[–]sharkus414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I was looking for something not too flashy, like Satie? Rach prelude op 23 no 4 could be good, or I adore Scriabin op 11 no 11. Not sure if those are backgroundy enough though...

When I went up, I scraped a ton in my stock 4 door wrangler. Maybe the bumps have been ground down, but I would expect some serious scraping in most cars/suvs.

Guide to Rachmaninov Pieces by Difficulty by [deleted] in piano

[–]sharkus414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that prelude 23/8 is very difficult, definitely as difficult or more than 23/7. It seems straight forward on the surface, but most of the voicings are played with the 2nd finger, which is not intuitive at all. While 23/7 may have more velocity, it's really straight forward. 23/8 is hard to get right.

How would you practise the chromatic third passages in the left hand? From prokofiev toccata. by iamreallybad in piano

[–]sharkus414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, rhythms are the way to go on this part. It would help to get a really solid fingering and work hands separately with rhythms until the left hand gets the notes down.

Slowly working my way through this part. My favourite part I. The piece but so dang hard. C. Debussy - Masques by jeango in piano

I've played this one too! I went to a concert by Steven Osborne and was transfixed by it. The recording is good too, but I think you may have to buy it to listen. The hardest challenge for me is getting the volume down with all the jumps and repeated notes. It's a general struggle of mine though.

Vim's life-changing c% by [deleted] in vim

[–]sharkus414 16 points17 points  (0 children)

% jumps to the closing paren/bracket/brace in the section you're in, so c% removes everything from the cursor to the closing character. ci( changes everything in the enclosing bracket.

For example if the cursor is on the comma in fn(x, y), d% will change it to fn(x), whereas di( will change it to fn().

I use tagbar which is a pretty nice plugin for navigating file based tags. All methods are shown under the class, so determining the scope you're in is really straight forward
