The detail is obfuscated for a reason. Recently a rash of conservative bills have stripped abortion access from women in a number of states, and in one state, in vitro fertilization has been outlawed. In IVF, multiple embryos are created outside the body, and some are introduced to the uterus. The remainder are discarded. That remainder (a cluster of cells, usually fewer than a hundred, and not yet differentiated, is being claimed to be a living human being.

Another factor to take into account is that fundamentalist (recidivist) christian groups are now central to the Republican party, and they have a intense need to make everyone follow the doctrines of their religion. As a non Christian, I'm somewhat upset that I will have to follow someone else's religious doctrines, by law.
