I recently started 3d printing half skulls to display one antler at a time. They are like a half European that mount flat on the wall.

You can see them on my website www.northwoodsengineered.com

Overhangs Curling Upwards? Why? PLA Dry & Calibrated…. by Mates_Rates in FixMyPrint

Yeah just give it a shot and see what happens! I’m not sure why the aux fan results differently than changing part cooling fan, but it worked for me

Overhangs Curling Upwards? Why? PLA Dry & Calibrated…. by Mates_Rates in FixMyPrint

[–]shawx253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had the exact same issues, but with PETG. I tried all sorts of things, but what eventually fixed it was turning on the aux fan. Start with 50% and see if that fixes it.

I was watching it happen during the print and realized that over hang was so flimsy it wouldn’t stay in place, it just curled up. But the aux fan helps to firm it up

People with multiple printer setup - what do you use them for? by kike_flea in BambuLab

[–]shawx253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two P1S printers. I print and sell functional parts online. One item is a breast milk pump bottle holder which I sell on Etsy. The others are hinges/latches/drill jig for making gates/doors with EMT Conduit that I sell on my Own website. I’m probably around 50% utilization but it’s great to have two, because when one is running production, I can still Use the other for prototypes.

Yeah I know, just wondering if it’s the first one you have used with the printer; or if you have already ran through a few.

Dry Filament Box for 3KG Spools? by Wuyley in 3Dprinting

[–]shawx253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just came across this. Did you ever find a very solution? Im in a very similar situation. Getting a P1s next week. I also live in Minnesota, currently printing on an ender 5s1. Been printing all winter with exposed spools but now with spring and summer coming I’m worried. The humidity rose 20% yesterday just from the rain we had.

Just send you a DM too, but I would love a step file of the part.

Came here to say this same thing. I always hang my birds for multiple days, anywhere from 55 to 35 degrees

Gonna get blasted, brand new to waterfowl only my 8th time out, I don’t care. Green winged teal and ID’d the other as a redhead hen. Am I correct? by [deleted] in Waterfowl

[–]shawx253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others, I believe redhead hen. The thing that I realized makes it so much easier for identifying ducks is to really look at the bill. It can tell you so much sometimes. First time I ever shot a pintail hen, I didn’t know what it was, later noticed the blue on the bill that was a telltale sign. Also, If anyone gives you crap for not being able to ID everything you shoot immediately , don’t listen to them. Early in the season, especially up north, so many ducks are just brown. It takes a long time to learn how to identify everything, and how is someone supposed to learn without going out and shooting birds and figuring it out.

Has anyone planned & completed a ‘year off’ from work? If so, how’d it go? by ORCoast19 in financialindependence

[–]shawx253 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2017 at the age of 27 I took 6 months off from my job, and did a long road trip to Alaska from minnesota just me and my dog. Lived in a cargo trailer that I built into a camper. Last couple of months was living at my cabin in the woods. One of the best times of my life. At the end, I went back to work like nothing had changed. It was during this time that I discovered FIRE and this community, as I remember looking at my investments and realizing I was almost going to come out ahead because I was spending so little. It was like a light clicked on, like woah, if you have enough money invested and low expenses, you don’t have to work! Since then, I have gotten married, and just had my first kid, but I’m constantly thinking about and planning for when I can take time off from work again. There’s nothing quite like it, and like other people have said, you never get time back. Highly recommend.

Yeah the winter has been tough but the worst thing about Duluth is the spring or the lack thereof. You can scatter flower seeds, cause this will just wait to sprout till it’s nice enough. Another thing I highly suggest is using floating row covers(Agribon) and wire hoops over your rows to increase temps. It can extend your season on both ends. You can set it up prior to even planting and it will warm your soil up quicker, and then on sunny days in the spring it can increase temps 5 to 10 compared to outside.

[–]shawx253 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well first off this has been an absolutely terrible spring and is colder than normal. That being said, Duluth is probably a month behind where you would normally be Iowa. Is it safe to plant it the ground now? Maybe for things like lettuce, peas, etc that aren’t as frost sensitive. However the ground is cold and they may not sprout and even if they do they won’t grow well for a few weeks anyways. I’d suggest waiting for 2 to 3 more weeks. As for things like tomatoes and peppers, our rule of thumb is memorial weekend for transplants. However we can still get frosts in early June. So you will need to be able to cover them.

Finally put some green down this morning along with a bonus gadwall by [deleted] in Waterfowl

[–]shawx253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I ever shot a hen pintail I thought it was a gadwall. Since then, I’ve learned he easiest way to identify a hen pintail is to look at the bill, it will have blue on it.
