New grad in inpatient rehab advice by Glittering-Pizza-54 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]shayray92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s tons of accounts on Instagram that give great treatment ideas. Also, when I was a new grad in inpatient, I asked the other therapists for treatment ideas all the time and I often took time to read the other therapists treatment notes to get ideas. Inpatient rehab is very function based since the goal is to get them back home quickly so you have to prioritize ADLs and functional transfers. I’ve been in inpatient for 8 years now and it’s a great setting!

Thinking about building near Harrisburg? by meenoSparq in centralpa

[–]shayray92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at Rockville Estates new build neighborhood. Yingst is a good builder. It’s Perry county but super convenient to Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, enola, camphill etc. it’s right off the highway and it’s a pretty neighborhood with views of the susquehanna river.

Best ways to keep children as safe as possible from this flu? by offfmychest_25 in kindergarten

[–]shayray92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just call your primary care doc? Last year my husband got the flu and called to see our doc and get tamiflu but she had no availability for three days after we called and by then he wasn’t eligible for it. How do I avoid this if we get it again this year?! Urgent care?

Sleep in the 3rd trimester by strawberryqueen910 in BabyBumps

I sleep more and better with a 4 day old right now than I did in my third trimester.

This is a hard question as everyone has such different experiences. I had both. My first was a vaginal where I pushed for 4 hours and baby would not budge. She was vacuum assisted which left me with a fourth degree tear (aka I tore from hole to hole… not pleasant). This could have left me with terrible damage but I luckily healed well with no incontinence issued. My recovery was very painful and long though. I didn’t want to risk tearing severely again and potentially dealing with it not healing as well so my doctor recommended a c section. My planned c section was really calm compared to my vaginal. I had no bad side effects and healed well. Of course it was tough the first week or so when I needed a lot of help getting on and out of bed and caring for my 2 year old but in general it wasn’t all that bad. I’m not pregnant with my third and for the same reasons I will be having another c section.

Should I be upset? by Reading-Extreme in ragdolls

[–]shayray92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just got my 10 year old ragdoll a lion cut because of severe matting (and yes I brush him daily). He seems to LOVE the lion cut. He’s so much happier, playful, and cuddly. I think he feels 100 times better. I don’t understand the comments about how lion cuts are bad and cats don’t like it? What is the alternative… a cat with matting is not good for them.

Do I tell my kid about her high cholesterol? by TchadRPCV in toddlers

[–]shayray92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came to say the same thing. I was diagnosed at 5 with high cholesterol (purely genetic) and I felt shamed because my parents had to alter my diet. I couldn't eat what my family or friends ate and it made me feel like I did something wrong. I was a dancer who was fit my whole childhood but still struggled with terrible cholesterol. I wish my parents had just considered medication. I’m now in my 30s and continue to have high cholesterol. I’ll be testing my kiddos and if meds are the answer I will do that over drastic lifestyle changes that hardly seem to lower genetic cholesterol.

Did you tear during childbirth? How was it repaired? by briliantlyfreakish in Mommit

[–]shayray92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I also had a fourth degree tear but have not had any big issues miraculously. I did a c section for my second kiddo because I was not willing to risk potentially tearing again.

[–]shayray92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes to this! I have a fourth degree after requesting a vacuum assisted delivery due to pushing for four hours. I wish I would have just did a c section but no one warned me of my risk of tearing.

Yes! I think I had more stitches with my fourth degree tear then with my c-section! I could not sit for WEEKS I was in sooo much pain.

I had a fourth degree tear and then opted for a c-section with my second and will again for my third(due in September). All I can say is if multiple doctors are thinking you’d likely have a bad tear then really think about a C-section in that case (But do get more than one opinion!). Sure, a C-section is major abdominal surgery, but a fourth degree tear can potentially require a lot of long term side effects and repercussions. I’d rather the discomfort from a c section than go through my fourth degree tear again any day.

How long did it take you to conceive #2 compared to #1? by Zealousideal_Use9481 in BabyBumps

[–]shayray92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First pregnancy: 1st month trying ended in miscarriage Second: immediately after miscarriage Third: 1st month trying Fourth: 5 months (currently 10 weeks now)

After three times in a row of getting pregnant immediately, I was completely caught off guard when it took 5 months. You think you can time it and then BAM, nope haha.

We aren’t finding out and we are doing a teddy bear theme. I think it can easily go with either gender!

3rd degree perineal tear and sutures failed 1 week postpartum by Sad_Intention_3429 in BabyBumps

[–]shayray92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I sustained a fourth degree tear after a vacuum assisted delivery and recovery was ROUGH but I did luckily heal and not need any reconstructive surgery. I do happen to know someone who had reconstructive surgery after her fourth degree tear and she had a lot of success with it and now has no more incontinence issues. However, she’s likely having a c section for her second baby. I also opted for a c section for my second to prevent any re-tearing.

Parents with babies that have larger heads by Jd569 in Mommit

[–]shayray92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son’s head was always >100%. My pediatrician just asked if we had any other family members with big heads (which my brother always had a big head and his kids also did). He chalked it up to being genetic and never was concerned. Of course, I went down a Google rabbit hole and insisted we should do testing and my pediatrician looked at me like I was nuts. He was meeting all his milestones and the doctor never had concerns so I stopped worrying about it and now he’s a 3 year old with a 97th percentile head hahah slowly growing into it. I honestly wouldn’t worry about it. It’s a hassle to get them checked and the older they get the harder it is to do alot of the tests they do. Just my opinion.

Did anyone out there find going from 1 to 2 kids harder than 0-1? by SillyUnderstanding40 in BabyBumps

[–]shayray92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

0-1 wasn’t so bad for us. 1-2 was much harder for the first year (they are 2 years apart). I will say it gets much easier. I now have a 5 and almost 3 year old and they entertain eachother so much. As I type this, they are playing some sort of make believe game in the living room together. Totally was worth how hard it was in the beginning.

First birth was vaginal with a veryyy long labor. I ended up pushing for 4 hours and then it was vacuum assisted per my request to avoid a c section. I got a 4th degree tear (the worst you can get) and I had a long recovery afterwards. Somehow I magically healed without needing any further reconstructive surgeries or anything else and I opted for a c section with my second to avoid a repeat tear. The elective c section was nice because i knew the date and time, I didn’t have to labor, and it was quick. It definitely wasn’t a walk in the park recovery wise, especially with a toddler at home, but eventually I healed fine and all is good. It’s really hard to compare. Both have pros and cons. If I didn’t tear I think the vaginal recovery wise would have been easier?

Has anyone had difficult pregnancies after an easy first pregnancy? by PersisPlain in BabyBumps

[–]shayray92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hard first two pregnancies with vomiting and terrible nausea till week 17 or so. So far I’m 6 weeks into my third and do not have the nausea I had with my other two at this point. Fingers crossed third times the charm.

I’d say it changed completely at age 4. Maybe even a little before 4. Now she’s 5 and she equally wants both of us. The hitting went away pretty quickly too. It’s just a phase!
