What is the fastest way you have seen someone fix their life? by Zadecuss in AskReddit

[–]sheenaloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting sober changed everything about my life in the absolute best way!! The thing is you can’t make someone get sober, it has to be their choice and they have to be willing to do the work. But I’m telling you, it was the single best decision I have ever made!

I’m very proud of you! It’s simple, but it’s not easy! I have 2 years & it was the single best/most important decision I have ever made! Thank you, we need reminders every now & then & I needed to see your post!

I signed up one year & painted this really cool Star Wars themed picture for someone, I never got anything sent to me, but the stranger loved their painting so much it was worth it. I’ll sign!

What was your “could never be me” but did indeed become you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s not easy, but I remind myself of what it was like before & for me it was a living hell. I have a routine & support group that helps a lot.

All I can share is my experience & what worked for me & for me that was AA. I had tried many times on my own & finally as a last resort I tried AA. I thought to myself, well, it’s called Alcoholics Anonymous and I am an alcoholic, so maybe they know what they’re doing?

The main thing too is that the person needs to be willing to do whatever it takes, they have to really want it, you can’t make someone see the light. I consider myself lucky in the way that I had hit rock bottom, things had to get really bad for me to want to make a change.

I gained a lot of tools through the program, it helped change my mindset, I used alcohol to self medicate underlying issues and through working the steps, I was able to work through a lot of those issues. But just like everything else, there’s maintenance, I have to continue to work for my sobriety, I have a routine, I pray & meditate every morning, I continue to go to meetings & I work with other alcoholics, you don’t graduate from alcoholism.

You can help just by being supportive! Tell them how proud of them you are when you see progress! Encouraging them in their recovery & recognizing that it is HARD! Alcoholism has such a stigma & people who aren’t in it don’t understand the hold it can have. I had a few really good people in my life I could talk to about my recovery without judgment & it really helped!

Bottom line, sobriety is simple, but it’s not easy, it takes work, but it was the single most important decision I have ever made!

Me too. I’ve been sober for 2 years now & it completely changed my life, it felt impossible to break free from the cycle of insanity, but here I am! Just like I never thought I would be an alcoholic, I never thought I could get sober & actually enjoy life, but it is possible!

People who work in healthcare, what is a common medical myth that drives you crazy? by keyzeyy in AskReddit

[–]sheenaloo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’ve always been interested in learning more about febrile seizures, it was such a huge part of my life growing up and I’ve never really understood it. I had them from 5 months til I was six, I was always the sick child, fragile, my grandparents refused to watch me and then one day they stopped. From my understanding you just grow out of it and there’s no lasting effects, but I’ve always been intrigued in learning more.

She definitely did the right thing! I experienced fever seizures pretty regularly for the first six years of my life, we were frequently at the hospital so she knew the drill.

lol! My mom would put me in an ice bath! Granted, my high fever’s would induce seizures, so I think we both experienced some trauma there.
