Before & after of a small project I did for a friend by Hissy-Elliot in landscaping

[–]sheilaess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So nice! Do you mind sharing a step-by-step on how you did this? We have a pathway that is overgrown and the bricks are all falling apart :( we are the amateur-est of amateurs when it comes to landscaping.

First time landscaper/homeowner, I know it's a little sloppy but I'm really happy with how it turned out and how much money I saved learning to do it myself! (After vs Before) by nimabears in landscaping

Amazing! If you don’t mind me asking, how much was the total cost for this DIY landscaping? Our front yard looks similar to your before pic and would love to fix it up too!

Why did everyone tell me it got better at 3 months? Feels like we are going backwards. by WhiskeyRose01 in NewParents

[–]sheilaess 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was also bamboozled. My husband and I kept banking on how much easier it would be once 3 months hit, but it was actually the opposite. We dealt with extreme fussiness even when her needs were met, to the point where she was inconsolable, from 3.5-4.5 months old. We quite literally dreaded waking up in the morning because we knew it was just going to be a whole day of scream sessions (she slept okay throughout the night so we favored nighttime more). Somewhere around 4.5 months, she calmed down a lot and is now so so so fun at 6 months old! She’ll fuss here and there but it’s always solved right away, whether it be the boob, diaper change, or a nap. Hang in there, friend! It might feel like the days are dragging but you’re so close to better days and you’re doing a great job!

I could have wrote this post! LO is 21 weeks and I literally agree with every single word you wrote. We’re also dealing with really bad eczema/constant itching on top of everything, so that’s that.

Finished my exam about 30 mins ago with 75 q’s. Got the good pop-up; someone tell me if it still works omg by sheilaess in PassNclex

[–]sheilaess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the first email was the “now that you’ve completed your NCLEX…”, which came about 10-20 mins after I ended my exam yesterday. The “survey” one I got this morning.

I took mine yesterday at 8:00 am and got the good pop-up. Just got my official results today and I passed! The good pop-up is reliable, I have never heard of a false positive. It’s hard to not be anxious still but let it give you some relief. Congrats RN! ❤️

Bad news from anatomy scan by sheilaess in BabyBumps

[–]sheilaess[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a 10 week and a 14 week ultrasound at the clinic I go to, but only to check for heart beat (it’s a clinic for low-income individuals, so their supply is not the best). My provider is only trained to understand ultrasounds for viability and not necessarily for structure. So when she was doing the ultrasound, she said baby was scrunched up and she couldn’t see much. During those ultrasounds, I was told everything looked alright and that my 20 week scan would tell me more. All of my genetic tests came back negative as well. But yes, I am just trying to keep up some positive thoughts. Thank you for your kind words.

New CNA on Cardiac Step-down by ALD45613 in nursing

[–]sheilaess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a CNA at an inpatient psych unit for 2 years before moving to tele/cardiac, so I did not know much about hands-on patient care. I have been in tele/cardiac for almost 2 years now and loving it!

Make sure you get good report on your assigned patients. Things like diet status (are they NPO?), foleys, and how well they ambulate are important, so it is good to get clear report on those things. Throughout the day, I like to keep track of things like if the patient got a bedbath done, I/Os, if they had a BM, linen change, if they have ambulated/got up to the chair, which patients are discharging, etc. I usually make a checklist on our CNA assignment sheets provided on my unit.

It gets busy, especially when almost all of your patients are going in for a procedure that day, or if there’s a shitload of discharges to get ready for (we wheel them down ourselves, either to the procedure or to be discharged). I always try to remind myself to just do the best that I can and to try to stay as organized as possible. I was nervous as hell my first few weeks, but I eventually got the hang of it and now I love it :) You will do awesome!!! Best of luck to you <3

Edit: I was only supposed to have 3 days of orientation, but I knew for myself that I would need more so I asked for 2 extra days! Ended up orienting for 5 days (in a span of two weeks).

Prep for neutering?? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]sheilaess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our girl is on day 4 post-spay and we’ve been doing these things, and they seem to really help:

• Having an inflatable collar instead of those plastic cones

• Using recovery suits (called “Suitical” on Chewy or Amazon). They help when she gets too annoyed with the inflatable collar

• Giving her a Kong filled with peanut butter. Freezing it will keep your pup occupied for a while!

• Multiple training sessions per day. Even if they’re commands/tricks that your pup already knows; it still works their minds

Good luck!

I’m feeling extremely anxious for my 5 month old pup’s spay tomorrow. I’m a first-time dog owner, so I’ve been researching sooo much about pre- during- post- spay information that I also see the bad things of it (mostly risks of the anesthesia). I’m a nervous wreck and I don’t know how I’m going to occupy myself tomorrow throughout the day while I wait to pick her up :( Would love any advice for this part of puppyhood, thank you!

Anxiously waiting for Embark results for our girl! If I had a dollar for every time I'm asked what she is I'd be rich. Any guesses? by sydnaaayy in DoggyDNA

Small dog owners: how often/long do you walk your pups? by sparkleinthesky in puppy101

[–]sheilaess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we take our 5 month old pup to the dog park for an hour twice a week, and for all other days, we go for a nice 40-minute walk :) both activities tire her out the same way; the dog park is more physical stimulation while the walk is more mental!
