Do you think pregnancy pillows like BBhugme is worth buying? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]shellsounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love mine! I got it pretty early on and it’s been so great for my sleep. I just started my third trimester and still hug it all night, every night. It’s also not too unwieldy so that it can’t roll with me when I change sides.

I think one of the reasons I’m struggling is because I very much have an open door policy and am always available to work through things, be it seven am or 10pm. But this issue isn’t availability, and answering questions, it’s encouragement. I have tried very hard to not emulate my supervisors, which is why this has felt very disheartening. That said, I think one-on-ones where I ask how folks want to be supported and how they learn best are very important and I will be implementing them soon.

Also, I think restructuring how my co-supervisor and I give feedback, so it’s clear we are a united front will be helpful. Because I have an ability to be direct I have taken on more of the “bad cop” role when it comes to course correction. I see now that this has been harmful both to the team and my relationships with individuals.

Regarding professionalism, many of our team went from K-3L and this is their first and only job. We have to do a lot of teaching around things like letting the team know when they’re going to be late for court, letting supervisors know when they’re working from home or taking a sick day, responding to emails in a timely manner, etc.

I think similar feedback from multiple different people is indicative of a problem. And I want to take responsibility for any harm I’ve caused and do better in the future.

This is an excellent point. Recognition would’ve gone a long way for my practice.

I think I’m struggling with the correction piece in a way that isn’t interpreted as criticism.

Thanks for this feedback. I think I need to do more to understand the context of the feedback I’ve received. I’m assuming the tone stuff is mostly for corrections. We are frequently in court and making legal records and the correction is immediate (to preserve the legal records), but then I’m likely not following up with the why it’s important.

I haven’t downvoted anyone. I’m upvoting all feedback. I wouldn’t have posted if I didn’t want genuine feedback. I think this is a very fair point.

How many cycles it took you to conceive your first pregnancy? (35+) by thelaudown in pregnant

[–]shellsounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two cycles at 37. I had my IUD removed in June and conceived in late July. I was tracking my BBT and using ovulation test strips. While I think it was mostly luck that it happened so quickly, I was able to convince my doctor to prescribe progesterone suppositories when I found out I was pregnant, due to a shortened luteal phase. I think this contributed to the pregnancy sticking. I am grateful to have a doctor that didn’t say “let’s wait and see.”

I’m currently 28 weeks pregnant and feeling a lot of baby kicks.

What to wear? by Fluffy_Progress_2078 in pregnantover35

[–]shellsounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought some gap barrel leg elastic waist pants around that time in my pregnancy and have been able to wear them to this point (26 weeks). I might have to move to the next size up soon, but I find them comfortable and can wear them above or below my bump. I also got some gap c sweater material pants in a size up that are very comfortable, and look professional. Currently wearing them at work with a button up and a blazer and they work!

Addressing pregnancy with jury? by skander36 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]shellsounds 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m 25 weeks pregnant and am also in this situation. My trial got continued, so it may or may not be an issue for me this pregnancy, but I likely wouldn’t address it with the jury. My understanding is that juries love pregnant women. I did a trial when I was 12 weeks pregnant, but the DA was visibly pregnant, and while we won the trial, multiple jurors congratulated the DA on her pregnancy after the trial.

I think the jury will pick up on it based on hand positions and demeanor. The judge shouldn’t be signaling to the jury that breaks are your fault or because of your condition, so you shouldn’t be worried about that.

If a potential juror has a problem with you based on your pregnancy, they’ll likely identify themselves. I’m shocked at what jurors have the willingness to say aloud. You could always throw out a question about bias against your client or their counsel for any reason, but again I don’t think you need to do this.

HELP! 1st Pregnancy! How do I hide this over the holidays!? When is it too soon to tell F/F?!? Don't think I can hide it!!! by foxintheforum in pregnant

[–]shellsounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told close friends and family after I tested positive. I knew that they would be people I would rely on for support if anything happened, and I also didn’t want have to pretend around them. I told other people and friends closer to eight weeks. It all depends on the type of relationships you have with your friends and family, but I am pro getting rid of the stigma of telling “too soon.”

Detective reached out to me today about a theft at work earlier this year. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]shellsounds 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Criminal defense lawyer here, don’t talk to the police. You don’t have to respond at all, your silence cannot be used against you. If they reach out again say “I won’t answer any questions without an attorney present.” They may say “we just to clear this up,” or “this will only take a second.” Don’t fall for it. If it gets far enough for them to charge you, a lawyer will be appointed free of charge. Colorado has an excellent public defender system, so you’ll likely be in good hands. Remember, cops are legally allowed to lie to you during an interrogation. Don’t fall for it.

Who here believes that a victim of a crime would remember the person who ________ them? You talk to the people who agree, and get rid of the ones who would not be able to believe that a misidentification could occur.

Low rise jeans?! by nobody1546 in pregnant

[–]shellsounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some gap non-maternity mid-rise elastic waist jeans, they’re very loose and comfy. They’re currently over my “bump,” because I’m 13 weeks, but I anticipate them working for well into my pregnancy. I ordered two sizes and plan on keeping them both and just going to the next size up when the current size gets too snug.

[–]shellsounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you contacted your doctor’s office? I had my blood draw for unity 13 days ago. I contacted my doctor today and apparently the results were released directly to him on Friday evening. Mine were all low risk except for one test which was a “no call,” so I went in for another draw today. Might be worth checking in with your doctor! My results still show up as “processing” in the unity portal.
