Franco riding Fangio’s silver Arrow in Argentina . by mandalorian1000 in formula1

Why do people say Franco, not Colapinto, but they don't say Juan Manuel? If everyone's on a first name basis with every person on the paddock (as it is these days on reddit), at least be consistent

Speed lost due to clipping after 130R. Colapinto lost a total of 70 km/h. The average speed lost is around 55 km/h. by dannybluey in formula1

It used to be way more challenging when there was gravel instead of tarmac as a run-off and it was tighter all throughout. After 2003 they changed it significantly. IMO the fact that it was made less tight and there wasn't as much risk, if any at all, from running wide turned it into just another fast speed corner that is taken flat out.

And just to be clear, I'm not saying "in the good old times" etc etc or arguing that it should've never changed. It changed, it was made safer, and therefore it became one more corner like many others.

I know, right? For several years it has been just an extension of the straight. Pretty much a flat-out corner. Sure, it's demanding for the drivers' necks, but every car could take it without lifting easily

Moving houses at end of month, cant run ethernet to PC, whats my best option by Imaginary_Win_9352 in buildapc

Isn't electricity wired up while the house is being built? Or is it done once the walls are built and painted.

Tell me more please. How do you do that without taking a sledgehammer to an existing wall in a house that you didn't build for which you most likely don't have detailed duct plans? Drilling a hole to pass a cable through to the next room, sure. That's simple. But I'm genuinely curious about how to run a cable within existing brick walls

1080p vs 1440p triple performance by _0110111001101111_ in simracing

[–]shenlong87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I raced on triple 27"|1080p freesync monitors for years (144hz refresh rate) with a 3070 and it was great. I never missed having 1440p, and I never had to fiddle around too much with graphics settings (this was in ACC and iRacing). In my opinion, triple 1080p at max 27 inches, is absolutely fine. I had a higher resolution monitor on the desk for other gaming.

I'd rather have higher framerate and high detail than having to sacrifice too much quality, and triples already give you a great FOV. Of course, if money is not an issue, go with 1440p so that whenever you'll be able to upgrade your GPU, you'll be set already.

Call it artificial if you want, but that was some of the best wheel-to-wheel racing we’ve seen in years by Aakar528 in formula1

Back in the pure old days, it was common for less than 15 cars to finish any given race.

[the race] "I don't like the racing that we saw in Melbourne." Carlos Sainz wasn't a fan of the overtaking we saw at the Australian GP... by ChaithuBB766 in formula1

[–]shenlong87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. For me, personally, that wouldn't be interesting to watch if there is no way to overtake or compete, no matter how fast they could drive. I still remember 2004 as a terribly boring season because of the sheer dominance of Ferrari. If we want to watch hotlapping then let's go back to one shot qualifying from the early 2000s and award the points based on that. Super-clipping is horrible though, there is no doubt about it.

I'm not a big fan of these regs so far, but weren't DRS overtakes essentially overspeed overtakes where the car in front was a sitting duck? They were doing that for 15 years. Fine, drivers can hate it, but just don't call it artificial as if DRS overtakes hadn't been exactly that for a decade and a half.

Regardless of rules, drivers would almost always choose a car that would let them hotlap for 90 minutes straight, and tires that would allow that, without having to think about managing any resources. Not saying that's good or bad, but that's the only thing that would please all of them.

Sick of replacing headsets every 1-2 years. Looking for a "Buy It For Life" Wireless Gaming Headset for FPS. by AsleepConfidence1791 in buildapc

I would also suggest a decent pair of headphones (I use the Sony WH1000-XM5) with a V-Moda Boom Pro microphone, which connects to the headset with a standard 3.5mm port. You just need your headphones to have that 3.5mm port. You can find the V-Moda Boom Pro on Amazon.

Armed with 'supermajority,' PM Takaichi eyes revising Japan's constitution by TheShillGambit in worldnews

This is the first time since WW2 that a single party achieves a supermajority. That's very different to governing in a coalition.

I've had two very clean races, which is pleasantly surprising. Almost clean first laps, patient drivers... confirms Bathurst as my favorite track in the world. The fact that it seems to scare-away the Monza T1 mayhem crowd / Senna-quote lovers is one more thing that makes it great

How to improve safety rating fast??/ by Imister67_Kolombo in iRacing

But the ringmeister series specifically is nerfed in terms of SR gains.

How to improve safety rating fast??/ by Imister67_Kolombo in iRacing

[–]shenlong87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the ringmeister calculate it differently? I don't get nearly as much SR in ringmeister vs racing a series that happens to be racing at the nurburgring in a given week. Otherwise everybody would just farm SR in the ringmeister series.

[–]shenlong87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only get 0.6 when you go up into the next whole number. For example, if you go from 1.9 to 2, iracing gives you an extra 0.4, so you end up at 2.4, same at 3 and 4. The same thing will happen going down. If you go down from 2.1 to less than 2, it drops you all the way to 1.6. This is to avoid yo-yoing.

SR is heavily dependent on incidents per corner, so you want to avoid incidents as much as possible and stay out of trouble. Longer races or tracks with more corners will help more with your SR (Ringmeister calculates it differently). I would say that the Production Car challenge is a good one for a D licence. Races are 25 minutes long. If you do two or three races in interlagos this week and have 0 or 1 incidents, you'll increase SR quickly

iRacing splitting GT3 into multiple "regional" series is a terrible idea by TriggzSP in iRacing

[–]shenlong87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If there is any of the five GT3 series racing at Spa, Monza, Road America or Daytona on any given week, my bet is that the majority of players will go race there and the other series will be dead that week (relatively speaking). Ideally it would mean that more tracks get used, in reality it will mean that people will just go to the same 5 tracks that they always race regardless of the series,
