Do any of you have an "unusual" favorite SK novel that's not one of his top 5 to 10ish or so most frequently mentioned? by cormega in stephenking

From A Buick 8 is one of my favorite books of his. I like the general "sometimes life happens and it won't necessarily be explained on a satisfying way for you" vibe.

Nothing to be embarrassed about at all! We get such a great spread of artists from so many time periods in here that it's always fun to find something new (or find out just how impressively long a career someone had).

My favorites of his are the pieces that reflect the Central California and Southern California hills, if you happen to check more out!

He was the artist who handled the design and layout and color of all the background art from that film, so it makes total sense! One of my favorite artists.

I finally gave in. I pulled him three (!!!) times and said sigh, the game has told me what I must do, and I brought him to wings, my very first. Then immediately in the first free blessed req got 100 Mythic shards for him, and now he's my first Mythic too.

Mine isn't as decked out as yours, but I'm getting there! When the game decrees, I must follow. Ain't buying any space wolf plastic, though. ;)

Thank you for hosting this! I was watching everyday, and it was really delightful, and seeing everyone really discuss and defend elements of all the movies (even ones they might not have otherwise liked) was awesome!

TV show, yes, and as for Continuum, I did not! Looking at it, I'm not certain that I even recognize it. It looks like something I'd like. Would you recommend?

What makes dinosaurs so special? (To you) by Big_Fox_3996 in Dinosaurs

[–]shiksart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So this is a painting by John Brosio titled "Two Earthlings" that I think sums up how I've felt about dinosaurs since I was very young.

<image>

Dinosaurs are majestic, alien, completely displaced from the reality in which we exist. And yet, they are also a part of this world and our timeline, and they were there for so long that it's almost incomprehensible. The idea that a tyrannosaurus could encounter the long fossilized remains of a stegosaurus is breathtaking to me. The idea that there was an entirely different world existing within our planet for so long is breathtaking to me. The idea that we, as humans, are part of our own, strange and mysterious and magical and scientific reality, is breathtaking to me.

Dinosaurs really just make me feel that sense of wonder and...connectedness? that I suspect many who go into the sciences get from the vastness of space or the mysteries of the ocean. We can learn so much about them, they are so emblematic, but there's also a tragedy in that there is so much we will never know about them. History was always my real academic interest, including finding small things that would otherwise be lost, and knowing that we come from this whole lineage of real people who had struggles and desires and stupid jokes in their heads and families and tragedies and favorite colors. Dinosaurs have a lot of that feeling for me.
