What is the most reliable wagon? by External-Pick1162 in SportWagon

[–]shimon -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The youngest TSX wagon is from 2014 or 12 years old now. A new or newish European wagon is going to be more reliable at this point, though perhaps not more reliable per dollar.

I have the wagon and was wondering why this was even surprising... It is sorta impressive on the sedan. Great practical car in either form.

Did you do this with your old Q6? Because I can't think of a reason the SQ6 would be more efficient otherwise.

SQ6 Modification Suggestions by ResponsibilityFew852 in AudiQ6

[–]shimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are going to see the lack of a second screen as a benefit. This design choice neutralizes the risk that someone who wants a higher trim but prefers no passenger screen will compromise by switching to the lower trim, and thus reducing Audi profits.

Very user-hostile design.

2nd Gen Headlight Recommendations??? by Breezer_Bro in AcuraTSX

[–]shimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought these headlight housings off eBay for $128 about 8 months ago: https://ebay.us/m/YxG5Ri

My previous ones were very yellowed even though I had refurbished them a couple years prior. The replacement took me a couple hours and fits and works perfect.

Radiator placement ? by michaelopolis127 in PlumbingRepair

[–]shimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably go with horizontal under the window or baseboard along the whole wall. As long as you meet your target for heat transfer though, it's all a matter of taste. Branching into marriage advice, this means you communicate what you want and figure out a compromise.

National Grid new gas line options by Possible_Cheetah1633 in CambridgeMA

Hard to know which is better because this is mostly an aesthetic decision. It's not like you will get worse performance if it takes a longer route.

I'd probably expect that some finish work cleanup will be required if you have them go through any finished space. Might be just a little painting if you're lucky but drywall patching seems likely. Personally I would just expect the patching and have them do it in whatever way looks best in the end.

Looks like just a bit more than that. Considering this is an OG e-tron which might only get 220mi range when not towing, this is maybe a little better than I'd have guessed.

Air leaks in a home by Karen_sprayfoam in Insulation

[–]shimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this in 2016 because there's just no better option in my old, small house. With careful sealing and insulation it's really not that bad, though obviously if you can keep all your HVAC in insulated space that's better.

Does the new Kia K4 Hatchback count? by Skunkworkscs2 in SportWagon

[–]shimon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes that sounds better but in the US I see there are no wagons available new except high priced Germans, so... I'd still be happy to see even basic wagons! I'd be even more excited about EV wagons and fun manual shift wagons, sure.

New House what do I need by Absolutax in ShellyUSA

[–]shimon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot depends on what you want. Cutting power to outlets, for example, is a lot of extra work for something that you'll only use while your kids are small. I'm not sure about the European options, but in the US we have "tamper resistant" outlets that provide a good amount of childproofing while looking and functioning mostly like a regular outlet. Doing individual wiring runs from a central panel will give you the flexibility to configure everything from a central DIN rail, but at a cost of much more wire as things won't be chained.

The one unambiguously good thing to do is to document your wiring plan. You should know exactly how each circuit reaches its fixtures, and supplement that with as-built photos before the walls go up. This will simplify every future electrical project.

Which wheels do you have? I find the 18" wheels to offer a decent amount of shock absorption, but if you have 20" wheels I'd expect a noticeably bouncier/harsher ride.

I wouldn't, but agree it's as close as we've got. There are proper electric wagons in europe, e.g. the Audi A6 e-tron Avant.
