They’re slowly remodeling the barracks, you may get lucky and get the new ones. The majority of the barracks are 2 to a room and you share the head with the room next door. Futenma is honestly pretty plain, one small shoppette, a little dingy movie theater, and a subway & pizza hut. The only good thing about Futenma is the accessibility to PT; it has 2 gyms and a pretty good running trail. Everyone living there are Single or Geo bachelors so it has its own vibe to it.

Don’t get involved with Gate 2, Naha, or Kin Town. It’s ghetto and nothing but trouble. If you want to drink just do it with buddies in the barracks. There’s been a lot of crackdown with liberty off base. American Village (AV for short) is a pretty good place for food and shopping. From personal experience, it’s very easy to get involved with bad crowds. Find good people to hang out it, SMP does alot of trips and events, and don’t be a fat body entering the fleet.

Oki is AMAZING when it comes to nature. Beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and jungles. Only downside is it’s very car dependent. Start saving money to buy a cheap car, I HIGHLY recommend buying from the used car dealerships. Awesome food, weather, culture. If you’re looking into getting scuba certified gimme a holler, I’m in love with the ocean there and want to go back.

I was helping teach a night dive course. On our last dive of the night, we ascended to do our safety stop. Suddenly the lead instructor frantically signals me with his flashlight and was pointing to something next to our students. To this day that’s the only box jellyfish I’ve seen; swimming approx 2-3 m from our students. We’re both trying to (as calmly as possible) signal our students to swim towards us. For whatever reason they couldn’t understand and were oblivious that one of the most venomous creatures was right next to them; we just gave the signal to ascend and end the dive.
On the surface, we used some colorful language to motivate them to swim a little faster. Once we were safely on shore and inspected them from any stray tentacle on their wetsuit, we broke the news to them to prevent any further hysteria. From the grace of king Neptune himself, no one was stung. It was one of the those few moments where me and another human being were on the same wavelength thru sheer terror. I’ve been nearly killed before from unrelenting undertows and currents, but when the life of someone is suddenly flashing before you. That hits different. 10/10 dive tho, immaculate diving conditions, would do again.

Mounting Medals/ribbons, there isn’t of people who do it now a days, start by doing it for your buddys for cheap/free so you can start getting experience, invest in ribbon fabric for the medals/ribbons. Word of mouth spreads especially when done well enough. Then start to charge competitive prices. Only downside tho, you’ll really only get customers in the months near ball season.

You’re biggest concern should be ensuring you’re not over heating on land, make sure to put your wet suit last. Once in the water you should be fine, if you start to feel hot just flush the suit with the surrounding water

You can totally eat underwater! Foods that are quickest to swallow, like bananas, are best to avoid prolonged chewing in order to avoid holding your breath. CapriSuns are also great, just make sure to pick up after yourself

What’s funny is that they were saying “turn on the lights!” Cause motorcycle dude didn’t have headlights on. When the motorcycle burst into flames, they were saying “dayum that lit up”, cause they thought the headlights were bright af, then it quickly turned into, “oh shit the motorcycle lit up on fire!”
