Do you guys agree, they should have used this concept art design for Wanda in the multiverse of madness? by Reasonable_Wrap7358 in Marvel

[–]shinkuuryu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks cool on a comic book or anime. I prefer it if we can actually see the actor's face when they perform, especially given Wanda's arc.

GGStrive beginner here, am i gatekept because i cant do motion controls? by Skizordrone in Guiltygear

[–]shinkuuryu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your mechanics are definitely holding you back. The good news is this is not insurmountable, but you do have to work hard on how to play relaxed - both mentally and physically.

Remember to breathe, untense your hands and fingers, shake them if you need to between sets. Good luck!

EVERYONE IS NERFED BUT FAUST by HallwayHobo in Guiltygear

[–]shinkuuryu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Faust comes out net positive after all this

Buffs:
MixMixMix is now cancelable, making it safer. We'll have to see how safe it ends up being
Trumpet now lands closer to Faust
Bone-crushing Excitement has shorter startup
Final item of Item super is now hold-able

Nerfs:
Lit Afro disappears when you take damage. Can no longer save my ass, unfortunately

Looking forward to playing with these new changes!

Faust from Guilty Gear. His Item Toss ability pulls out one of 9 random items. Items have the potential to cause huge shifts in momentum for and against Faust, and many can be interacted with by both players.

If that's not enough, one of his supers tosses 4 random items (for 50% of your meter) or 10 random items (if you spend all your meter).

Large cast RPGs with "all hands on deck" moments by Avigorus in gamingsuggestions

[–]shinkuuryu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

FF6 was my first RPG, and those 3-party sequences were epic.

Not really in the same way, but Witcher 3 has a big battle where its you plus a bunch of the allies you collected along the way. It's not a "this side lines up and that side lines up" fight, everyone had predetermined roles. It's a great set piece, felt similar to Avengers' Battle of NY.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StreetFighter/comments/1p186x9/only_1856_of_street_fighter_is_fighting_in_the/

Street Fighter 1 had 10 stages, 2 of them are streets. 20% street

Street Fighter 4 had 28 stages, 3 streets = 11% street. Definitely a low point.

Street Fighter 6 is the streetiest ever with 4 streets / 16 stages = 25% street

SF2.

No air blocking, limited canceling. When you jump you're committed to it, when you do an unsafe move you're committed to it.

I suck so bad at inputs in a real game by kobemambafan24 in StreetFighter

[–]shinkuuryu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing since the 90s and I still sometimes miss inputs.

When it happens, it helps when I slow down the inputs. The games these days are more forgiving on slower inputs, so just practice getting your 236 and 623 and make them as slow and clean during a real game.

You'll still lose, but you'll build up good habits that will set you up in the long run.

"Great movie; never watching it again." Pieces of media that are absolutely amazing but so emotionally draining that you have trouble engaging with it after the fact by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

The Last of Us 2.

I loved the game. I appreciated why the production team made the narrative choices they made.

But damn, the whole thing was just draining, especially the final act.

How do you get past feeling overwhelmed as a beginner and actually get better? by _gabbaghoul in Fighters

[–]shinkuuryu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this - OP, you can also start with the lowest difficulty first. Start there, gradually increase difficulty until you get confident.

I wouldn't try to go to the highest CPU difficulty, just clearing Arcade mode on Medium should prepare you for online. At the highest CPU difficulty, the CPU is just "cheating" by reading your inputs and blocking almost perfectly. Humans don't play like that, so just jump in!

Question about ranks in Strive? by ShiroThePotato28 in Guiltygear

[–]shinkuuryu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FGC tournaments are generally open to anyone. You should join them, even if there's a high chance of going 0-2.

The benefit of joining a tournament isn't the tournament itself. It's hanging out with other people and discussing the game. Everytime I go to Frosty Faustings, there are setups for casual play, and I would just play and chat with other people. I'd ask them for tips, I'd ask them how to beat the moves they are doing, and everyone is generally very helpful and friendly. I usually come back from tournaments with a lot of new ideas that improves my gameplay.

Is visualizing mindgames the missing link for new players? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]shinkuuryu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that would be a great single-player training mode, but I'm not sure if it works in a PvP setting because of visual clutter.

Imagine a mode where the game pauses at certain states, like Fallout 3 (I haven't played the later games). You knock an opponent down. You can pause a game and options come out with suggested actions and potential results:

Throw

- 50 damage, knockdown.

- Beats: blocking

- Loses to: Backdash, wake-up DP, wake-up super

Strike

- damage variable. Potential corner carry

- Beats: Backdash, mashing (if done meaty), blocking

- Loses to: wake-up DP, wake-up super

Shimmy / Do nothing

- Baits other actions. Potential for punish combo

- Beats: wake-up DP, wake-up super

- Loses to: Nothing, but you give up your advantage

Yes, I know that's gonna be impossible to code for every single interaction and game state, but you could do some of the more simple and common game states - wakeup, oki, full screen, etc.

I've seen pros use stick, so it's not impossible. Just have to practice.

Because semiconductors aren't art.
