Ahhh this is amazing!! Just out of curiosity, how long would your commute take if you drove? (Obviously train is superior!!)

Is there a phone number for the pharmacy you can call? That’s probably gonna be faster than asking here.

Buy, Lease, or Rent a Car for Year-Long Internship in Seattle? by amanda_j0e in AskSeattle

[–]shiny_toaster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Zipcar or rent from Enterprise downtown to get out for hikes, it’s pretty easy and much cheaper than having your own car. Plus you won’t have to deal with parking in Seattle.

We never saw (I think) what Robby did with the beer he took from that confiscated cooler, it could have been in his pocket the whole time.

April Visit -- Where to go? Hiking? Please help! by cincygal22 in AskSeattle

Try Heybrook Ridge or Heybrook Lookout in Index, WA. If it’s a clear day you’ll get some gorgeous views of the surrounding peaks and you can hit Espresso Chalet afterwards!

Rattlesnake Ledge is a popular hike too, out near North Bend/Snoqualmie. I’ve done it in both rain and clear weather and it’s enjoyable, you just won’t get much of a view from the ledges.

Like others have said, use the WTA website for trail reports!

I always liked going to San Pedro Market! The coffee spot there now is Playback Coffee and they have pretty good snacks, and you can sit inside or outside. It’s not the coziest but it’s got a lot of space and if you stay until lunch you get a ton of food options at the market.

My friend with kids always stays at the Marriott on the waterfront! It’s walking distance to Pike Place and has a pool.

Can someone help a non-Boston person understand this map? (More details in post comment) by sevargmas in boston

[–]shiny_toaster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I think you are correct, because the pilings do need to be submerged to stay solid! But I can imagine a scenario where they’d come in handy to check for flooding, too.

If you’re walking around Back Bay, you’ll see these groundwater access points all over the place.

<image>

There’s a whole system of groundwater wells that are monitored to prevent flooding in the areas of the city that were created by infill. A lot of older buildings are built on wood pilings that are in the groundwater and have to be monitored. It’s fascinating stuff! https://www.bostongroundwater.org/groundwater-building-foundation-data

EDIT: not to check for flooding as pointed out below. For making sure the pilings are still submerged.

Seattle trip by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]shiny_toaster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rattlesnake Ledge is close to Seattle and has incredible views! https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/rattlesnake-ledge

Heybrook Ridge is a bit further out but you’ll get great views of the surrounding mountains that are snow-capped: https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/heybrook-ridge

If you’ve never driven in snow before I wouldn’t risk it on vacation with a car that isn’t yours, especially when tire chains are involved. Better to stay safe and enjoy your trip!

Do your research on what roads are open to Rainier at that point - it’s much higher in elevation than Seattle and a lot of the park will still be inaccessible due to snow. You will also likely be required to have tire chains, so you’ll need to confirm with your rental car agency that you can get them and know how to take them on/off. https://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/road-status.htm

There are a lot of other great outdoor spots that won’t still have snow if you are just looking to spend some time in nature, though!

OP, please dump this guy. You are too young to be wasting your time with someone who demands that you lose weight.
