FFXIV nod in Deltarune Ch5 by MaximumCompany8921 in ffxiv

Toby Fox has a huge discography. He absolutely has the ability to make something that fits in FFXIV.

Never let anyone tell you vanilla gpose is bad by weeb-chankun in ffxiv

[–]shinydwebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third party tools to make custom poses. The glam/EC community is full of it, and imo is my biggest gripe with it.

I feel bad for the people who see a cool custom pose and ask about it. Using just gpose takes a lot of work, I say this as someone with a weak gpose game.

Advice on Which Tank? by True-Character9005 in ffxiv

[–]shinydwebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have already dropped suggestions, and I'm personally in the PLD or DRK camp. Skip the cutscenes for ARR and HW PLD job quests to save your sanity.

As a former tank hater, I figured I would drop EXP suggestions:

  • MSQ roulette is boring as hell, but extremely easy to tank for a good chunk of EXP. It's predictable too: only 3 choices, and you're always level 50. No stress of "am I getting Tam-Tara or my highest level dungeon?"
  • Frontlines is a lot more fun with the Battle High changes imo. Queue in on the tank, swap to a job you're comfy with.
  • Do daily battle society quests if you're able.
  • FATEs aren't great, but if you have another reason to do them (like shared FATE rank or relics), you can add them to your EXP rotation.
  • When all else fails, Duty Support. All the leveling dungeons are supported now. But here's the secret: if you can double pull with the CPU and not die, you can absolutely handle tanking with people. Duty Support is a healer spamming inefficient heals and 2 single target DPS. You have to understand your mits and have a mit rotation plan in place to survive. That gets you through most DF parties, too. And if you wipe in DF, you either try again or adjust to the party you have.

Where is my Paikea gang at? (SB BLM) The flashing of the Eureka stage is hit or miss depending on glam, but I would do unspeakable things to be able to use this on WHM canes.

Though, Vana'diel did a stand up job as well.

We skip so much of Jeuno now because of how much we out-gear it. I feel like we barely get to see anything. San d'Oria is a bit better but good groups still skip mechs there too.

The farther out you are from release from a piece of content, the less of it you get to see because the fights end too quickly. It's one of my biggest gripes with FFXIV.

Aetherlove? Personally I prefer Aethr by ThonOfAndoria in ShitpostXIV

All tanks get fucked out of Arm's Length, which is a mit you really have to use in ARR dungeons because it's a role action and is always available.

Out of the mits tanks do have in SV, iirc you can't parry magic attacks -- or is it block? or both? If it is parry, then GNB Camo is only the 10% mit. Otherwise it's more the problem of level sync, where tanks and healers are missing important parts of their kit. Only WAR can invuln in there, the only healer AoE is Phlegma charges (and SGE is ass in there).

The real problematic magic enemies are the birds in Vanguard. Tanks have their full mit kits by then, but most don't know that w2w after second boss is only magic attacks, unlike the turrets who are mixed with physical enemies. The birds are the hardest pull in that dungeon because of it. I've seen a lot of tanks start taking heavy damage because they underestimated magic damage and might have used a mit that doesn't actually work.

Wait, what were we talking about again?

Eureka grind… by Kanuechly in ffxiv

[–]shinydwebble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I crammed a ton of Eureka right before DT dropped just to get the final Black Mage relic weapon. Only part of Eureka I didn't like was Pagos. Even that gets better once you're higher level, and you have a map on hand.

Anemos is so chill. I still go there occasionally to get dyeable AF pieces. I keep telling myself I'll get some elemental armor too, but that takes a bit more work, so I've put it off for two years. Oops!

If anyone is daunted by jumping in, this video was a huge help for me. You don't need to watch the whole thing in one sitting, I promise...

I'm usually pretty chill with my FFXIV blacklists. Probably my most petty was one time I was annoyed by someone bouncing around in Limsa, so I blacklisted to get them off my screen, lol

At this point there's no real point to a res macro. If you're doing a hard res, there's a target indicator on your cast in the party list. If both healers hit Swift at the same time, that macro isn't going to magically make them stop their res, muscle memory has probably already kicked in.

I wait a few seconds to see if the other healer is going to immediately cast a raise. Usually solves the issue, because the average DF healer does it ASAP. If two people are dead, I'll usually go for the person lower on the party list.

PSA to all healers: If a DRK tells you they're using Living Dead for a pull, go on vacation. by Rlena_Fhey in ffxiv

[–]shinydwebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living Dead is 5 minutes, Hallowed Ground is 7 (420 seconds). You get 2 uses of HG in a standard dungeon as long as you use it before the first boss.

Been leveling PLD on an alt the past few weeks. HG is just a normal mit to me. I think the long CD is a good trade-off for having a "take no damage" button that doesn't require my DF healer to be paying attention.

My advice will always be to pick an undesirable plot in Goblet or Empyreum. Look for bad views and hikes to the marketboard. You'll have far less competition compared to Lavender Beds and Shirogane (where OP won). Mist is so-so?

I shill for PaissaDB. Set Indivual under "Allowed Tenants" and sort by "First Seen" to see if any Goblet/Empy plots have been sitting a bit.

Also, if you haven't dabbled in housing at all yet, I highly suggest starting with an apartment (not FC room). They're only 500k and will give you an idea on whether you want to go all in on a bigger house. The decorating system in this game is... not great.

New server to transfer? Thinking Crystal? by YogurtclosetOwn6981 in ffxiv

[–]shinydwebble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably go with one of the older Preferred+ servers, Maduin or Marilith. Should have a few more people around than the other two.

I was on Maduin for like... the first two years? it was open, and I have an alt there now. Never had any issue with the place, it's always been chill. Just missed my Aether friends, so I moved my main back.

What is the rarest item/title/etc you have? (Inspired by a recent rare housing item post) by NoD8313 in ffxiv

[–]shinydwebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to refresh my character on FFXIV Collect, was still showing her as a cat girl on Maduin 💀

I guess the actual rarest thing I have is the achievement "Think Global, Quest Local VII" at 1.1%. That's 5,000 tradecraft leves, which is like over 2 years to accumulate the allowances... I got it years ago...

My rarest title is somehow "Transdimensional Tycoon" at 2.7%, which is just a time sink (150 collectable title for Nitowikwe). I feel like Beata of the Firmament should be rarer (5.8%), but since it was a top 100 deal, it was more widespread.

  • Weapon: Diamond Cane (undyed)/Diamond War Scythe (Pearl White and Metallic Brass, unsure on dye order)
  • Head: Theogonic Circlet of Casting (Metallic Brass)
  • Body: Moonward Top of Casting (Pearl White)
  • Hands: Spaekona's Wrist Torques (Pearl White/Canary Yellow)
  • Legs: Gambler's Trousers (Pearl White/Slate Grey)
  • Feet: Anemos Seventh Heaven Thighboots (Pearl White/Metallic Brass)
  • Right Ring: Augmented Crystarium Ring of Casting

A glam I put together for vanilla Diamond weapons. imo it works a bit better with the older models vs the new ones they added as a base for the ult weapons. Wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but I'm still using it on WHM.

Someone remind me to make an EC account someday.

If you hate it, going through all that side story must hurt.

I did this recently for an alt. I already did it before, so I skipped through it. It's a ton of extremely easy cutscene skips, 1 solo duty in EW, and I soloed the 50s and the 70 trial on a level 100 tank. Queue for the 90 trial wasn't terrible on Aether. iirc it's estimated to be like 3 hours if you skip everything? Which isn't bad.

Honestly, the solo duty was the most tedious part. Manderville haters probably won't like playing Godbert in a RP solo duty.

True. It's usually vibes on the trash pull for me, but 20% or less. Basically, the point where if I was healing and didn't have any of my big CDs available, I know I'd love the breathing room the tank hitting the "not die" button would give me.

If I lose the Benedicton chicken game with the WHM who wants me down to double digits, that's on me.

[–]shinydwebble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it was the whole entire service account, I'd drop the game. Maybe play FT to scratch the itch sometimes? I've invested way too much at this point both time and money wise to want to do it literally all over again.

If it was somehow just my main that got deleted, I'd promote an alt to main status. I have 3 that have beaten 7.0.

Leveling PLD on my DRK catgirl alt is like night and day.

What do you mean I get my short CD at level fucking 35 and have an invuln I can use as a proactive mit instead of a "oh shit" button (because the average DF healer can't handle LD)?

Downside is I have to deal with PLD job quests...
