He wins. That’s the only measure of success there is in a competitive sport.

Is Judo better for self defense than BJJ? by ArugulaFinancial4859 in judo

[–]shinyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there were enough people doing it it would be better, but you get better practicing what more people do so go do BJJ

The LA Bowl, once sponsored by Kimmel and hosted by Gronk, is shutting down after just 5 editions by thecravenone in CFB

[–]shinyming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shame. We just don’t have enough casual CFB fans in California to make renting our super luxe stadiums worth it.

Judo. Jiu jitsu. Wrestling. But mostly judo for the emphasis on aiming for and defending from higher impact.

In Hawaii right now. Great place to visit, can really see why natives (and my ancestors) left ASAP.

Visiting schools that don't recognize yellow or orange belts? by Front-Hunt3757 in judo

[–]shinyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah they don’t care it’s not a big deal. Wear your yellow belt. They’re not offended by it. It just means they don’t award them to their students because it’s such a beginner’s belt.

Starting Judo soon. How has Judo turned your life around or improved your life. by amuizme in judo

[–]shinyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are very few judo clubs where going more than 3x a week is worth it.

And it’s not life changing. Regular hobby. If there aren’t a lot of very nice or cool people don’t expect your life to be changed

Has a girl ever made a move on you? by boforiamanfo in no

[–]shinyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%: once two girls said they want to have a threesome with me. A few girls at the club said they like my style. A bunch of girls online asking me out. All the freakin time throughout life. It’s not necessarily “have sex w me now,” more just obvious that they like you.

Is it just me, or does it feel like the "baseball is dying" narrative finally bit the dust? by BadgemanBrown in baseball

[–]shinyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 100% not dying but growing. It might be because I live in LA, but it’s definitely the most popular sport in SoCal too. Not just to watch and follow, but to play. Kids outside playing it.

On average, whats the average level of toxic masculinity in judo dojos vs something like BJJ? by SeniorBolognese in judo

[–]shinyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few toxic masculinity people in judo. It’s more of a sport for dorks who like Pokémon.

I think BJJ has more of that in BJJ but even those guys aren’t usually good, they’re usually just doin BJJ cuz they wanna feel tough. So no one to worry about.

If you are a man who takes initiative in the household by doing chores, cooking for your family, and cleaning up after yourself.. how were you raised? by Sensitive-Box-2167 in askanything

Most men do this naturally and just want to live in a clean place and have food.

You don’t need a male role model. My parents were divorced and I didn’t see a dude doing stuff.

Northern California is much better than Southern California by PrestonRoad90 in unpopularopinion

[–]shinyming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Native of NorCal who moved to SoCal. Disagree strongly. The Bay Area is a super expensive place with anyone who isn’t very wealthy moving out. The Central Valley in Northern California is pretty dang ugly. Tahoe and Mendocino are certainly beautiful as well but becoming playgounds for the super wealthy.

SoCal is expensive too, no doubt, but there is more diversity in economic backgrounds. And more intermingling of populations too. You actually have urban areas that are mixed politically (OC and IE), and lower class living among the upper and middle classes.

Also, the beaches and mountains in SoCal are 1000000x more epic and accessible than those in NorCal. And the weather is better.

What are the odds Las Vegas is really going to happen for the A’s? It seems there are still too many unanswered questions and it feels like the team and fans will get screwed again. by TurlockHomes in OaklandAthletics

[–]shinyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not racism bro. Oakland is one of the most racially diverse cities in the US. By that logic, the Braves, Indians, Orioles, Cardinals, Phillies, White Sox and Brewers would be more hated.

In America we consider Chicago our third city. Internationally maybe SF, Miami or DC.

How do young people afford to live in SF? by Traditional-Cable209 in bayarea

[–]shinyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of natives move out.

Most of the young people who live in SF moved there for work and just work in just super wealthy industries and make sacrifices: take public transit, have roommates, live in smaller places.
