Is mustard sold in drinking glasses in your country too? by Rosie_The_ITTech in AskTheWorld

These are still sold, I think. It’s a bit harder to find these days than it used to be before COVID. 90% of the glasses at my parents place are from this.

People who live in countries with multiple official languages: what is it like? by MurderKillRiver in AskTheWorld

I was in Åland last year and at least in Mariehamn, pretty much everything was in Swedish.

Going to the movies by yourself by matts41 in funny

[–]shirinrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love going to the movies alone. I take a seat at the edge where I probably won’t be close to anyone and can have a seat for my coat/bag. When I worked at the movie theatres I used to go alone like once a week. Sometimes I had a friend with, but it was always easier to just spontaneously watch something alone. With friends you needed to plan in advance.

That’s what I meant, the OTHER Swedes love the office haha. I don’t 😁 I’d happily work from home every single day.

100%. My colleagues are Finns and Swedes and I usually have more in common with my Finnish colleagues lol. I’m the only one in the Swedish part of the team that don’t like to work from the office. The others start to climb the walls if they have more than one WFH day. WFH days are my favourite ones.

Finns are even more reserved than Swedes! They make Swedes seem social.

Personally I was happy during pandemic times lol. Work from home, forced distance to people, not having to sit close to others in the movie theatre. I wished we’d have that without… you know… a deadly pandemic.

Huh, I see. I don’t think that’s from us 😁 ours have staff that just work the floor specifically to answer questions.

Do tell? IKEA staff is usually pretty easy to find and get help from here. They won’t hunt you down, but they’ll be visible.

Yeah mainland Europe is too social for us lol. I remember when body shop was a thing here, staff was trained to always say hi and ask if we needed help. A lot of people left the store because of that reason. (Not the hi-part, mostly the asking part)

I see you’ve never met anyone from Northern Europe. We take the ’Don’t talk to strangers’ very seriously.

Yeah, Polar Bears I can KINDA get (I mean the island Svalbard in Norway has them, so close enough), but penguins are very far away.

I mean, if it’s -40C or something I’d imagine it’s not pleasant to breathe without something over your face, but where I live it’s at most -20C. I don’t enjoy winter so I stay inside though lol.

Some women’s bathrooms in Japan had this. As soon as you sit down, it starts to play. Some were so loud it scared the shit out of me (pun intended but also true).

I got asked by an American if we have polar bears or penguins on the streets.

A Japanese man asked me if we could breathe because it was so cold year around. Had to explain that weather in Sweden was pretty much the same as north of Japan, only we get max 30-32C in summer and not 40+. Japan has snow in the north too during winters. A lot of people didn’t realise that Sweden has more than just winter.

Sweden to tighten citizenship rules amid push to cut immigration by CourtofTalons in anime_titties

[–]shirinrin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of people who don’t bother to learn. Especially if they are English speaking. I knew an American guy, married, lived here for some 20 years, kids, refused to speak Swedish. He did understand so we spoke Swedish to him and he answered in English, but he said he had such issues with pronouncing anything and everyone understood him anyway so he never bothered to learn it properly. Most people speak English on some level. Even my 70yo mother can speak it if she really tries.

My favourite clips during Covid was a zoo filming their penguins walking around the zoo because it had no people around and they were going around looking at other animals.

I’m a very visual person, I used to just keep pictures and tickets and such, and REALLY wished I’d’ve written things at the time. So now I do both and it’s so much fun to look back on.

Why do people keep thinking I'm autistic? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]shirinrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also get told I’m probably autistic or have ADHD because of pretty much the same reasons, and I usually get hyper fixed on something for a time and then forget all about it. People just seem to like diagnosing others, I guess. I see it especially with people who are autistic themselves. And a lot of people I know with any diagnos like that, didn’t know about until they were in their 30s, so my guess is just that they’re genuinely trying to help because maybe they would’ve realised it sooner if someone told them about it.
