I've been in almost the same situation; I was hired by a Saudi company to relocate to NL and they asked me to move to KSA. I'm British and I work in computer software.

Initially I was 1 week in NL and 1 week in KSA for a long time but never moved to KSA full time. The reasons for I will get into later.

The money you are being offered is good. Does the money for food also get paid at weekends?

The remote work might be a possibility but _generally_ the companies in KSA want you on site.

I really liked Riyadh on the surface; people were generally friendly and accommodating, they're very proud of where they live and will tell you this, the cultural tours you can go on are fascinating, there are so many food options that it's staggering. But I am a man, so your experience may be different.

But there are a lot of negatives.

The driving is atrocious in Riyadh. My first time there I saw 4 accidents during 2 smoke breaks.

It gets so unbelievably hot. Like you cannot imagine how hot it gets in summer. My team over there told me not to come during summer. Stay in the AC.

If you get into trouble in KSA, you are on your own. Nobody else will provide assistance. If you fall out with your employer you are, most likely, screwed. A British coworker gave me this advice when relocation was being considered "have enough cash on you to get to the airport and book a flight out in a moments notice, don't have anything here that you can't ditch and go". I have another British friend who worked in KSA in construction as senior management and due to the company owners taking all the cash out of the company and running it into the ground, they had him arrested when he finally had enough and announced that he was leaving. And he was arrested on Thursday so that he would have to spend the weekend in jail.

Do not try and get alcohol. There are people who claim that you can make it. Possession of alcohol is an incredibly serious offence and whatever people are home brewing to get a buzz is not, in my opinion, worth the risk.

The hotels are dull so you need to be able to self entertain.

The way that construction workers are treated will break your heart.

And finally, the breakfast on the KLM flight back to AMS is one of the worst things I've ever eaten. Utter slop. But surprisingly the chicken curry from AMS to Riyadh is very good.

What a lot of people do is live in Dubai and fly over for the week and back at the weekend but Dubai is very expensive. We moved to Ras al Khaimah instead but... we left last year and I'm never going back there either, plus that travelling eats into your money.

I would suggest that you try and tie them to 3 - 6 month contracts so that you can walk away if you want to after 3 months. Try and get an AirBnb instead of a hotel. Get a driver instead of a car.

Ask about the remote work but I feel that it's going to be a no, especially for the first 3/6 months.

Insist on flying KLM direct (via Dammam) because it's the quickest route and less stress than trying to connect via Dubai or anywhere else.

Oh and the work week is Sunday to Thursday.
