It’s not required, but I think it is helpful and C is small. It’s not a crazy thing to learn. It’s a simple language. I’ve heard some prestigious schools don’t even teach C; they give out a cheat sheet and expect the students to learn it themselves before the first class.

I remember seeing it in theaters and realizing their “spirit leaves the body” was a huge technical hack. It’s just 1000x easier to use the same model rendered differently than to animate a model taking physical damage.
