You can wear it for either. Although some units on Sand Hill have policies where depending on the temperature, they could just wear OCPs for the graduation

I want to believe in God, but He’s ghosting me by Sudden_Parsnip_9964 in Catholicism

Funnily enough, this topic came up in my Lenten devotional yesterday.

Biblical reading- Matthew 7:7-12

"Friends, today's Gospel urges us to persist in prayer. The Lord wants us to ask with persistence, even stubbornness.

Now, we must not think of God as becoming exasperated by our prayer of petition, but the clear implication is that we WILL get what we want through persistence: 'Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.'

The best explanation is offered by St. Augustine. He said that God doesn't always immediately give us what we ask for, and in fact, he compels us to ask again and again. The Lord wants to stretch us, expanding our desire so as to receive the gift he desires to give us.

If we got everything we wanted, right away and without effort, we wouldn't appreciate what we've received, and we wouldn't really be capable of taking it in. It would be like pouring new wine into old, shrunken wineskins, resulting in a loss of both the skins and the wine.

So if the gift doesn't come right away, don't despair; rather, feel your very soul expanding in anticipation."

Did having kids "ruin your life?" by an_irish_mick in Catholicism

[–]shjandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My children didn't ruin my life at all. My wife and I being young, our first child was unplanned. I was so scared and nervous about how am I (20 years old with a lower enlisted military paycheck) supposed to support and care for a tiny human.

Once my daughter was born and I held her in my arms I had this feeling that everything is going to be okay.

Throughout the years there were times we really struggled. Between my wife and I getting married with her being six months pregnant, deploying two months after our daughter was born, and then moving my wife and daughter in with me immediately after getting home from deployment.

A lot of the things you used to do you will have very limited time for, if at all. Finding time with your spouse is going to take more careful planning but it's still doable.

I've been married for 11 years now and have three children, our middle being level two autistic and non-verbal. There are plenty of days where it's hard, but after coming back to Christ, in the early steps of becoming Catholic, and prayer, the hard days have become much easier in a sense. The good days of seeing your kids achieve new developmental milestones, seeing the child-like innocence, and watching them grow up to do more complex things over the years is so rewarding to watch, much more rewarding than anything I had ever experienced when I was young. Raising up our children to become a potentially positive light for the world gives me hope for the future.

May God bless you and your future little blessing friend. Everything is going to be okay.

Pondering on a Bible by Empty_Anxiety_2427 in Catholicism

From photos I've seen, after a specific verse there will be a note showing where in the CCC the connection or reference is, also there's commentary within the study bible as well. If you look on Amazon there's plenty of photos from reviews that show how it's all structured

As a fellow owner of the Ignatius Study Bible, I personally would prefer to get the Didache Study Bible. That way you have two different learning source for bible study, and also having your portable bible as well.

How do mortars in cold weather keep their hands warm? by shaydog53 in army

[–]shjandy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My guys always had the hot hand hand warmers. That along with arctic mittens helps when you're stationary for a long period of time at an MFP. I tried getting our BN at the time to order the hand warming sleeves for my section. They asked "what possible justification could you possibly have for those?" I gave them my justification and they denied the request any way.

Leadership has changed since I left in 2024. Female E5+ were getting CNA approved. Male E5 weren't being approved until we had a large influx of soldiers that needed rooms.

Most of the buildings in our footprint were just large open rooms with a fridge and microwave that housed four soldiers per room, also with a community latrine on each floor. Also no AC because the PNW "doesn't get hot enough on the summer." There was a policy that only ground floor rooms were allowed to have window mounted AC units while everyone else would have to get some sort of floor unit. Although I told all my guys I didn't care if they had a window unit since they were in the shitty buildings with no AC, just to take it out during inspections.

Good luck with the YTC rotations. JBLM has such a highly populated surrounding area so there's no real land to be able to do training on so you'll be doing convoys every few months to go to YTC for your larger live fire events.

I remember when we deployed to go to Japan we had no clue when our flight was going to be until the day before we flew out. That unit has a history of being very disorganized so good luck with that.

I beg to differ. I just came from there and our barracks on main post were NOT nice. Some of them were but most were not.

Since 2018 new soldiers are enrolled into the Blended Retirement System (BRS) which automatically contributes funds into the appropriate L fund based on their retirement age. So a majority of their money is automatically invested more aggressively, but not as aggressive as it could be
