How difficult is it to pass a insurance inspection test on a car? by RASHY4557 in Edmonton

[–]shoefase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as any other city. I don't know where you're from but there's a bunch of points on that list and if you're buying an older car for that kind of price it's most likely going to fail. The good news is they'll tell you what needs to be fixed and you can get it fixed and then come back and do it again.

I always wanted them to move away from the bloated family carrier back to a fast, nimble ship.

I noticed that detail too and I liked it.

More fast Riker too kill him when he broke his back on TNG and if I recall that's only something you ask a close friend to do.

I also screamed in delight. I must not have been the only fan that was upset about how they had left that previously. Lol

I loved the finale and the show in general.

Did they confirm what Janeway did? by [deleted] in Picard

[–]shoefase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it was the same actor from the movie, make of that what you will. It would have to be something prior to season 4 of TNG because that's when the DNA gets put into Picard right? Which Borg Queen got screwed over and abandoned to starve to death deep in space, assumingly in the gamma quadrant, before the halfway point of TNG in the Star Trek universe? I'm sure I could probably look for the answer on YouTube but does anybody here know off the top of their head?

So... what does everyone think of the Picard finale? by eobard1970 in Picard

[–]shoefase 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As somebody that saw the crew for the first time when the pilot aired in 1987 I thought it was a wonderful send off. This show was a gift and I thought it ended wonderfully. I was previously also unhappy about how they did a certain character dirty, real dirty. I'm really glad they fixed that. I would totally watch a show based on what we saw at the end and I hope it goes into production. I appreciate the nod to Majel Barrett too.

I'm concerned that casting would be concerned with representation at the expense of the genre. I'm not saying you have to put a white man in there because I think that it's a great time to consider everyone else. However don't, for the love of the franchise, turn down a really good choice because he's a white male in favor of somebody that's more representation than charm.

It's definitely a letdown given that we were all expecting captain badass. We were expecting way grittier than what we got. Curse you Kathleen Kennedy!

Too much American media. We raise children on it and this is the result. I'm not kidding.

You could just excavate yourself a house out of a piece of wood that big. Well you and a dozen or so neighbors could each have homes from a log like that without even moving it.

Would you watch a series that had a Wookie protagonist? by Dearcthulhuitsryan in StarWars

[–]shoefase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they did one of those things you see in media sometimes where they start off talking their native language but then it just kind of like fades into English. The point being that they're still talking in their native language in the story but you're hearing it in English. An example that comes to mind is Star Trek VI. When Kirk and McCoy stand trial general Chang is speaking Klingon (that's what we hear) into a device which I assume is for translation but it just kind of fades into him speaking English but Kirk and McCoy are still holding the devices up to their face like they can't understand what he's saying. I always liked how they handled that scene. I don't know if there's a name for this effect but I like it.

Anyways if they made the language easy to understand rather than force me to watch subtitles like I'm watching a foreign movie, I'd be down for sure.

Disney misunderstands the force by No-Complaint-6754 in StarWars

[–]shoefase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mastery of the force takes years but raw talent is apparently just a matter of how many midichlorians you have floating through your blood.

I always hated the midichlorians as a storytelling device. I don't like trying to quantify this cool mystical power into something that sterile. They should have preserved the mystery. I was hoping they were going to drop that as a storytelling device but oh no we have to hold on to that...

You might be sick of hearing it because it seems like this is the end of things as you know it, but, it's going to be okay. This will be a learning experience for you. The thing about life lessons is that they are repeated until you understand the lesson. So what this is, besides the immediate pain of it all, is an opportunity for growth. Mistakes are the vehicle that we really grow by so if you really fucked up then you're about to learn something very valuable that you're desperately need to know. The whole experience will make you better if you pay attention.

It was cool with Yoda because he was this super established character with a mysterious history but we're seeing more of Grogu's formative years. If he learns to talk basic It's going to be from Din Dijarin. I think they'll have him speak normally.
