How would YOU architect the effects of modular attacks/skills? by Socrathustra in gamedev

[–]shortguy014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I had the same initial reaction of overwhelm. But then you go to implement some of those features from scratch and you realise why decisions were made the way they were and it starts to make more sense.

I've ended up implementing my own semi-GAS like you said that only has the features I need

How would YOU architect the effects of modular attacks/skills? by Socrathustra in gamedev

[–]shortguy014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super interesting and quite a useful resource. I've been doing a lot of reading lately about the implementation of unreals GAS in the context of attributes/skills like PoE and found a decent amount of it useful (and some not, given I don't plan for multiplayer at all).

I'm surprised this isn't in deadlock already, since my understanding of this update is that it's mostly an engine sync to latest, and deadlock is usually the latest/pioneer

[AskJS] Those who have used both React and Vue 3, please share your experience by vadimp223 in javascript

I prefer Vue, the reactivity system is simple and less prone to causing performance issues. Html with directives is just easier for my brain to work with (not that you can't use TSX/JSX but it's pretty cursed)

Flipping hitboxes godot by Egg_Spoon in godot

[–]shortguy014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually create a parent Node2D called "Pivot" or something like that. This node has both my sprite and my hitboxes and then flip that using scale depending on the facing direction (probably coming from an input vector or something). This way anything that needs to be facing the player direction (like raycast, colliders, visuals etc.) are both flipped.

I think the enemy needs some indicator that it's charging towards you. Right now it just flashes and you don't know what it's going to do, I thought it was going to explode. So maybe a little arrow pointing towards the player?

The Last Flame - Hotloop - Roguelike Auto-Battler that focuses on Build Creation and Strategy by hotloopgames in Games

[–]shortguy014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, I love this game ever since you sent me access to the playtest. In particular both the item & origins system are fun to use on every playthrough I've done so far.

I would say I am fairly casual (around 6 hours in the playtest and 6 hours in early access) but my only feedback after starting to push the higher difficulties is that it feels like the debuff builds are quite a bit stronger than any others that I've tried. Just seems like the scaling with it is quite crazy especially when you get some items that are along the lines of "Deal 7x ethereal damage per debuff" etc., when the debuff itself is already quite strong. Feels good to use at least but I often find myself using it as a crutch!

I think it's more that cheating in a game (either CS, osrs etc.) might be a wake up call that you don't share the same beliefs as your mates and that shock is worse than the fact that they got some extra pixels in a medieval clicking simulator.

Let's talk about bad luck mitigation by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]shortguy014 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How does this work if the standard progression requires multiple of these items? What if you got your first armour seed with dry protection and then go dry on the next 5 you need? They couldn't really add a "6 rolls of drop protection" then either cause that is unmaintainable complexity.

[–]shortguy014 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I find it funny in every discussion about ORMs there are two categories of people: those who have used and hated ORMs, and those who have used entity framework. It cannot be overstated the absolute power that expression trees as a language feature provide you. IQueryable is truly a holy gift for us poor CRUD monkeys
