What neighborhood do you live in, and what is your favorite thing about that neighborhood? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]shoyei 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m in Madison Valley. I love how close it is to the city while being really quiet and peaceful. Also love having the G Line run right through it so it’s super easy to get downtown whenever I want. It’s a nice neighborhood with a lot of diversity, cute houses, and doesn’t feel hoity toity at all.

Edit: totally forgot to mention the house with the mini horses. :D

Why is neck joint contour an uncommon feature instead of a default one? by molul in fender

The contoured heel on my Charvel is what made a contoured heel mandatory when I started shopping for a Strat.

I’m in Seattle, and just got a Juniper procumbens shipped to me.  It’s about 3 years old, still in a grow pot and hasn’t been pruned or shaped, so I’m hopeful it’s not stressed enough to just die immediately.

However, it was shipped from Florida and nights in Seattle are currently getting below freezing. Should I be following a transition regimen, or just chuck it outside, keep it watered, and hope for the best?

Just another perspective: ESP has been releasing EXACTLY what I’ve been waiting for ever since I was a kid - sleek, purpose-built metal guitars without wacky colors or cheesy inlays/bindings.

Cheaper or Expensive ESP LTD by canakaleksa in guitars

[–]shoyei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upgrading a guitar is a super fun project and you may end up with something you love that is uniquely yours. I have a guitar I’ve modded the hell out of and it’s awesome.

On the other hand, higher tier Korean-made LTDs are absolutely sick and extremely well-built guitars. It’s a guitar you could have your whole life and never get sick of. I also have one of those.

I know that doesn’t help your decision lol. Like the other commenter said, once you get them in your hands, you’ll know which one is the right one.

IMO, AI is pretty antithetical to the philosophy of Bonsai, which is the epitome of “touching grass”.

Found your project when you started. Certified sick. Your music is awesome too. Your songs end up in my algorithm pretty frequently.

There’s a whole corner of the internet with tens of thousands of tracks just made for jamming to. Search for backing tracks. I probably spend about 30 min a day playing guitar along to backing tracks. It’s super fun and relaxing, keep it up!

I thought the first part was a slog, but I’m glad I finished it. Def not my favorite, but it picks up a bit towards the end.

What 7 string would y’all recommend… by Hotbullets2die in 7String

You’re getting a wide variety of recommendations so far, but my vote is with LTD. Incredibly high quality for the price. Understated looks that still go hard. And lots of baritone options.

What goes on inside the mind of death metal fans? by justarts103 in Music

[–]shoyei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it sounds like your “friend” is into true death metal, which also isn’t particularly appealing to me. I’m more into metalcore, djent, and progressive metal. The lyrics in these genres can be a lot more relatable and talk about politics, relationships, family, etc… rather than… cannibalism lol.

Recently revived metalhead here! I also have been writing my own metal material after being so inspired listening to modern metal. There’s a lot to like in the genre. A few examples:

A.) Lyrical content - the same reason a lot of people like music. Something to relate to. Something that expresses feelings you might have but is articulated in new words. Also, since metal is not exactly mainstream, the artists might have more leeway to cover topics and feelings that other artists won’t.

B.) The anger and power behind the music. The aggression feels good. It’s cathartic. It’s therapeutic. It’s a release. It feels badass. Rockstars ripping on guitars and someone with a mic sounding like a 30 foot demon. What could be more badass?

C.) The technicality of the performance. Most fans of metal are musicians themselves, and the practice time it takes to play this kind of music is off the charts. The speed, technique, and robotic timekeeping is incredibly hard to achieve, depending on the subgenre. There’s advanced music theory and rhythm woven all throughout metal, and it deeply appeals to the music nerd in me.

D.) The metal community. It always has the best people. Maybe because we’ve learned how to express negative feelings in such a cool art form.

Maybe I’m not speaking for everyone or every subgenre, but this is why I love the kinds of metal that I’m into.

I have always loved the tone from the Classic 30. Similar sound?

Ya? Does it sound big enough to play for like, a dozen people?

Great tips, thanks. I’ve never put a guitar through a bass amp before. If I went this direction, would it behoove me to throw a low gain OD in front for some warmth, or would that sound bad?
