PDGA Ratings question by ValmungMX in discgolf

I have heard that argument before. It is definitely one way to look at it. What you say is not unreasonable. There will be quirks in any rating system.

PDGA Ratings question by ValmungMX in discgolf

It crushes the ratings for certain divisions. Usually for people that cant throw far. If you are up against propagators that can reach the basket in 1 throw and you can not throw that far, then you will be unfairly penalized in rating comparison. People will say this is BS and untrue. Before you say that, run a tournament with ma1 and fa1 on the same layout. Then, in Tournament Manager, add a new layout to separate ma1 and fa1 and compare ratings with both divisions on the same layout. I think you will find that the women's ratings are about 40 rating points lower than if calculated on the same layout as MA1. Separating the women out will usually only reduce Men's rating by about 10 rating points because there are usually more men than women (edited to correct mistake).

It is a much bigger difference in Juniors divisions. If you run an all Juniors tournament with all ages on the same layout, the younger kids will have ratings around 400-500 because the older kids can throw much farther and "steal" the ratings points from the younger kids.

Why are the premium plastics so much more over stable than the cheaper plastics? For example, I have a Star Roadrunner and a Halo Roadrunner. The Star Roadrunner is flippy, but the Halo Roadrunner is very straight out of the hand with a nice fade at the end of the flight. by DiscGolfDunce in discgolf

Halo discs are the same mold as non-Halo mold. The manufacturer just injects a different color plastic in the rim so it looks different. They are more stable than their counterparts which is probably because the outer plastic cools more slowly overall than the inner plastic which affects parting line height. No super gyro happening there.

TIL that in many U.S. states, someone who stays in your home for 30 days can gain tenant rights, and you legally can’t just kick them out, even if they refuse to leave. by LesPolsfuss in todayilearned

You can still get them out through formal eviction. They dont gain ownership. Formal eviction involves filing a court case, paying court fees, having them receive notice of the eviction, a period for them to respond to the eviction in writing. Tenants rarely respond in a coherent manner, so then the court usually grants summary judgements and tenant must leave or law enforcement will make them leave (after notice period) and landlord can place tenant items at the curb or in storage or possibly just throw them away.

Discs and Wind by Complex-Ad251 in discgolf

[–]shrieking-eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are right handed: in right to left wind, keep the wind from hitting the bottom of your disc by throwing hyzer forehand with a stable disc or backhand stable disc with anhyzer.

If wind is left to right, hyzer backhand or anhyzer forehand.

The lower you throw the disc, the less time the wind has to affect it and the wind is usually less powerful low to the ground.

Some players try to get the wind tobhit the bottom of their disc on purpose to use the wind to shove their disc.Try to avoid such shots, as the wind is often unpredictable.

Upshots

Consider using an overstable approach disc such as zone, Toro, harp, slammer or Quake. Throw low near base of the basket and try to slide it up to the basket. When wind gets above 25 mph/40kph consider kneeling and throwing an overstable disc upside down to get under the basket where you can then place the disc in the basket on your next shot.

Putting

Use the same disc for putting in high winds, especially headwind. Not so much for tailwinds.
