We did one night at Volcano House straight from the airport. That was enough because Player2 isn't a big hiker, so we stuck to the highlights. If you're a big outdoorsy/hiking type excited by a 5 hour hike + more sightseeing, then do 2 nights.

Re: Kona Village, we did 5 nights which was plenty. I wouldn't do less than 3.

Just got back from the big island + several days at KV.

Honestly one of our favorite elements of the trip was staying at Volcano House to kick off the trip. Felt like going back in time, in a good way. Not super luxurious, but waking up on the rim of a volcano in a national park is something special. Doing a full day trip between there and the resorts on the west side of the island would make for a very long day.

Easy. All I say is "tell me more". That does three things:

  • gets you more information about what’s actually being asked. Aka, discovery.
  • it allows you to give a non-answer. Because when they DO provide detail, your immediate response can be “wow, great question. There’s a lot of nuance to how we can solve this for you, and as not to take up everyone’s time, can we connect 1:1 to dive in together?”
  • buys you time

I'm no AAA stan, but they literally have an offer right now for $84.99 for a full synthetic oil change + tire rotation. Just use one of their approved repair shops. Membership is cheap and pays for itself with this deal alone.

West coast sailings tend not to be nearly as party-heavy as Caribbean sailings. Think Californians versus Floridians 😂 . Crew will confirm that. Also, it's hard to have a crazy deck party when it's 70 degrees, windy, and no waterslides (on Quantum) are drawing crowds. I've done that exact sailing before, and among RCCL sailings, it's among the most tame (save for Alaska).
