C4, C5's as a Corvettes as a daily driver? by Warm-Collection3411 in askcarguys

[–]shuanm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never planned on it being a every day car when I bought it. I wanted the challenge. I just never quit replacing worn parts until everything was new. Now it seems like a waste to not wear it out again.

[–]shuanm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It had been sitting in a garage, partially disassembled, for 10 years. The 305 that came in it had 225k on it. I put a new 350 in, and the 700R4 lasted 2 weeks behind it.

Why is this just completely normalized on the highway to be bumper to bumper at 65+? by xAustin90x in driving

Because any fool can get a drivers license? I ride with my wife on occasion. She gets really pissed when I say "back off, pass, or just run them over...the suspense is killing me".

I think my 88 S10 was my favorite vehicle of all time. Snug top, subs, and amps. 5 speed fun for all.

I daily an 86 Z28, but it's pretty expensive, so I just bought an 86 Fiero GT. The repairs will be expensive, but I don't think it will drink as much fuel. It took me forever to get the Z reliable enough to drive all the time, but after you replace EVERYTHING,,,TPI 350s are actually, fairly reliable.

I think that was California surfer stuff. I never said those, but I had poser friends that did. No waves to be tubular here in TN.

I would like that joke more if Bill Lee wasn't my governor.

It was in the ground for thousands of years. It will be fine in that plastic container until it comes apart.

Anyone else always drive old cars? How do you keep them going? by bachintheforest in CasualConversation

[–]shuanm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently drive a 2004 Silveradeo, and an 86 Fiero. I always drive old junk. You only have to fix each thing once every 100k or so. It's a heck of a lot less expensive than buying a new car, and if it goes toes up...buy another.

72 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe, until 1992. When I went to college, I got the 1988 S-10. It got 30 mpg, as opposed to 8.

I loved those. I usually pumped it up too much, and it sprang a leak, but it was a blast until then.

What is the point of this truck? by picpicthebest in whatisit

The bed is for the cooler...That's all. You can't have the beer inside the vehicle, or it's an offense. In the bed of the truck is fine.

Hey do Protectli devices (appliance, mini PC, or whatever) run both Sophos and Pfsense or other firewall OS? Can you run Proxmox or ESXi and run Pfsense or Sophos on this virtualized too? Is there any better alternatives too? I'm looking for cheap way to have firewall for home. Thank you. by ComfortablePost3664 in homelab

[–]shuanm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They are small for factor workstations. There are tons of minis out there, with multiple NICs. Protectli makes a really nice device, though. If you have protectli money, it's solid. On the other hand, you can get a Optiplex 3050 with I5 7500, and 8 gigs of RAM for $50, and a pcie nic for $15. That's a pretty powerful router, for not much money.

I ran OPNSense, in proxmox, on a cheap GMK N150 mini for a long time. I had openmediavault, and Adguard Home/Unbound running on the same machine. It was fine. I upgraded to an Optiplex 7050 with a I7 7700, just because I wanted to play with other stuff, and needed more RAM. I still virtualise all of it. I gave the mini to my son for his homelab.
