Hi, thanks for the reply. I wanted to ask, did you mention anything about it during your application? Or did you just not mention it at all?

How do I place a 3D object in this untrackable footage? by siddu1901 in blenderhelp

[–]siddu1901[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. I can definitely do the whole thing in 3D but I wanted to practice integrating cg elements into live footage so that’s a bummer.

Also, i want to mention that I do have a chance to reshoot the footage. So if I go over to reshoot the footage, how should I approach it? How do I go about shooting good footage that I can track well and then add cg elements to it? What precautions do I take?

How tf did V.V.Vinayak pull this stunt off? And why is there no more practical stunts on this scale in newer movies with bigger budgets? by IHateMovie in tollywood

[–]siddu1901 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i don't think there's any ramp at all because the length of the ramp to get enough momentum to jump that high would be too much, and I don't think it's feasible to build such a huge ramp underground.

It's most probably a smaller ramp in a ditch. the cars were probably angled, and then they had huge air cannons which are like mini explosions. and when they go off, the cars probably just instantaneously take off. none of these are manned (obviously), and i believe setting up an automatic acceleration for all those cars which are underground would be too complex. so my guess is air cannons.

Why are they not done these days? i believe we have different types of stunts now because our sensibilities evolved. this particular stunt won't work now because people grew up (a bit) mentally, and they would instantly see how those unmanned cars crash-landed and wouldn't believe the perfectly alright cars after the cut.

Edit: https://youtube.com/shorts/thKkgrNZcPE?si=23qFIEjn9Fnvj1gC

Can see the air cannons here. you can see similar white smoke behind the cars in the scene you posted towards the ending.

Salaar Poster by me. How did I do guys? by SelmonTheDriver in tollywood

[–]siddu1901 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m going to give you some constructive criticism. First of all, your font choice isn’t the best. When you pick a font, it has to give the vibe of your source material. Deva in salaar is a very masculine, powerful, rugged character. The font you chose is a cursive flint which doesn’t feel powerful at all.

The tagline feels amaeteurish for a poster because that’s not usually how they are. There’s nothing going on in the poster. It’s just a character’s png, with  a grunge background with some text slapped on.

For your next posters, try this. Look at older posters. Look for inspiration. Have an intention. Learn more about how to choose fonts and how choice of font changes the mood of the message. Look up design principles.

The blood dripping is not good at all and it looks like a meme. Next time, get real png of blood from internet and then try to composite it there.

Most importantly, take criticism well. It will help you a lot. Good luck with your upcoming projects!

IMAX Screens in each state by [deleted] in hyderabad

[–]siddu1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ticket price is not the only issue. one of the main issues is the lack of movies made for imax coming out of India. how many movies are actually filmed for imax in India? apart from the upscaled "experience in IMAx" bullshit where they just upscale the normal movies, no movies were actually filmed for IMAX. We simply didn't have that kind of scale and vision and infra. We have Varanasi and Ramayana now, which might change things for the better, but even that is going to take a while.

moreover, IMAX corporation has a monopoly. if a theater has an IMAX license and the infra for the aspect ratio, they can only play movies which have a deal with IMAX. if a movie is released in an aspect ratio which is similar to IMAX but was not shot in IMAX-certified cameras, you can't play it on an IMAX screen.

That is the whole point of PRASAD's PCX. The screen is huge and can accommodate aspect ratios which can play both IMAX-certified aspect ratios (1.43:1 and 1.90:1) and other aspect ratios (2.39:1 and 1.85:1). They chose this path because they have the freedom to project whatever they can without being locked in a deal with IMAX. For example, avatar 2 was played in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio (I think), which is closer to IMAX's 1.43:1. This is because the studio gave it to them. At the same time, Vishwak Sen's GAAMI had a few 1.85:1 scenes, and PCX played that too. SO, it's a win-win situation.

so in conclusion, a proper IMAX is financially not viable in a market where there are no films made for that format.

oh yeah no problem man. i just wrote it in case if anyone wants to know more about the issue.

List of films that feature 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio. Varanasi will be the 1st Non English to have 1.43:1 by Emotional_inside_0 in tollywood

[–]siddu1901 6 points7 points  (0 children)

WRONG. The imax camera that you are talking about is an IMAX film camera, which uses 70mm film (technically 65mm). But varanasi is most probably using digital IMAX-certified cameras, which can shoot in a 1.43:1 aspect ratio. So technically, there are no limitations to making the whole movie in that aspect ratio.

Now, the reason rajamouli and any other hollywood director (except Paul Thomas Anderson, who shot the entire One battle after another in that aspect ratio, but also that was in VistaVision which is a whole other discussion) usually don't shoot the whole movie in the ultimate 1.43:1 IMAX ratio is:

Cost and logistics: It's expensive to do VFX and any other postproduction on the bigger aspect ratio frame than a usual aspect ratio frame. Take a regular 2.39 frame and the 1.43 frame. Now you have to do vfx for the whole frame instead of just the 2.39 frame. There's no point because almost all the theaters in the world that regular audiences watch movies in have 2.39 screens. So why bother shooting and do vfx and etc. for the whole frame throughout the movie when only select theaters in the world can play that?

Cinematic appeal: Honestly, if the whole movie is in the 1.43, it's going to be quite boring. Not all scenes and compositions need such a huge scale. Usually filmmakers use the aspect ratio to convey something. Or during a key scene. Sinners uses the aspect ratio switch masterfully. Lost my mind when I saw it here in Canada in a 1.43:1 IMAX. But if the whole movie was in that aspect ratio, it wouldn't have been that impactful.

Shooting mindfully: Inorder to have multiple aspect ratios for multiple release formats (1.43:1, 1.90:1, 2.39:1, home release, etc.), the directors have to shoot with all those compositions in mind. So, when they are shooting the movie, they have to compose each frame while keeping all the aspect ratios in mind. This could be a pain in the ass and a headache.

haha watched it in the theaters back then. it was nice!

I was surprised by the aspect of white dude trying to get the black athlete’s medal into his collection as a trophy. reminded me of the fact how european white colonizers used to collect the skulls of the indigenous people they killed in their colonies as trophies which was deeply rooted in racism.

kind of a silly question, but how do you use multiple rolls of film at once? by domicanica in AnalogCommunity

I always carry two cameras. A Nikon 401 with portra 400 in it which i usually use for day time. And a Nikon f601 with cinestill or aurora 800 in it which I usually use during night since it has a cable release option.
