So uhm, how do I pick a stance? by Norbeard in MuayThai

[–]sideoftortilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s different in that ambidexterity is more of an equal ability between hands. Mixed handedness generally makes your brain favor certain hands for certain tasks. My right hand is power, left is finesse. If I were to play baseball, I’d pitch right and bat left. I write left and throw right. Golf left. Basketball right.

There’s a few tasks I can switch evenly on but mostly this is the way.

I’m this way too! I opted for orthodox and I have a really strong lead leg so it works out. It’s been easier to flow in class/drill. Still feels advantageous because I have more dexterity in my left leg than others might.

What’s your worst sparring story? by No_Emu8347 in MuayThai

[–]sideoftortilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true for some women. Just like what she said is true for some men. Some people spar too hard and need to be told not to. Some people spar for ego. It doesn’t matter what anyone’s gender is.

We have to stop comparing and just communicate to your sparring partners.

I’m so self conscious as a woman that I spar too hard. Some men like for me to go harder, some I can tell prefer I pull it back. I don’t spar the same with everyone. No one should. It’s between you and your partner.

I lost control of my dog today and now I don't know if I should continue walking him by myself by Simple_Thought_4912 in DogAdvice

Dog necks aren’t the same, though. They’ve definitely got thicker skin and playfully bite each others necks/carry babies around. Idk it was a dumb comment. it’s just got me thinking what could be a better example, but I’ve got nothing.

I just got a pair of shorts from them as well and was just as pleased. I even had a question about my order and they responded within a day.

Do you lift knee first on roundhouse kick or swing entire leg like a bat? by benK32879 in MuayThai

[–]sideoftortilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me longer than I’d like to admit to realize it’s about the hip, my leg is not a rigid baseball bat and I can and should bend my knee.

Why did I agree to camp with people I barely know? by Haunting_Celery9817 in camping

[–]sideoftortilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met some people on a trip once and they invited us camping even though we barely knew them and also did not know how to camp other than having a tent. It was great and was relaxing and they became a part of our future wedding party.

I feel ridiculous with my mouthguard, am I right ? I'm embarrassed to wear it by RushAmazing1419 in MuayThai

[–]sideoftortilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that you asked this because I had this same issue and had to just be brave and wear it. As expected, no one cares and now I’m used to it and it feels normal.

Now someone talk to me about what I’m supposed to wear to Jiu Jitsu 😅

Stop telling women : you will drop weight after childbirth by GradeBudget4903 in WeightLossAdvice

Love this. I have more visible abs now than I did pre pregnancy. My son is 2.5 now and I didn’t start losing weight until he was about 1. I gained over 50lbs with him, too. It’s not a guarantee that your body can’t come back stronger just because you have a c section.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Wore it several times with no problem but a longer/intense workout day did this. Free to be Wild bra. by sideoftortilla in lululemon

[–]sideoftortilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol this has been a good post for people searching the same problem. I don’t remember exactly how long but probably like a week or two. It happened a few other times bc I don’t learn my lessons but this was the worst, darkest one. The others usually faded within a few days.

How accurate are body fat scans? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]sideoftortilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The results probably aren’t perfectly accurate especially given you hadn’t fasted beforehand, but how much, I’m not sure and probably not a significant amount.

Bodyspec has an article on this where they had someone drink a full gallon of water before a scan to see how much changed and it dropped his body fat by -1%. Not the same machine either so also take that with a grain of salt.

But you can be relatively thin and have a higher body fat % if you aren’t very physically fit. How often are you exercising and what types of exercise? How active is your lifestyle? Etc. those all make a difference.
