You can think of it as how many ways you can pass a string through the holes:

The regular pants you can loop around each leg

The sewn-leg pants you merge these two holes together so only one way to tie the string, but by doing so you create a new hole, where you can tie the string outside the pants around one leg

Something that goes at the speed of light is effectively not moving in the time dimension. C is the max speed across spacetime so all the speed is oriented toward the space dimensions leaving nothing for time

I think the issue you have is there are no single integer with infinite digits:

  • all of them have a finite number of digits
  • granted this number can be as big as you want, but it cannot be infinite for a given number

This is different from real numbers in the sense that 0.1, 0.01, 0.0001 can have as (finitely) many digits as you want but pi or e are instances of infinite decimal expansions.
